Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great SpeakersGot 2 pairs of thse for the home theatre. We moved and the small stellite speakers that came with the Yamaha HTIB did not go with the decor...I got two pairs of these, one on either side of the 50" plasma as the front/main speakers, and another for in the ceiling over the couch for the rears. I kept the original sub and re programmed the receiver to 4.1 from 6.1 and it sounds great. I could have gotten 3 pairs of these but 6 would have been overkill in the space. The speakers are very well made, ie no cheap plactic parts, everything is metal and sturdy. Easy to install using the template provided in the box. Two tips: first, plan to stuff some insulation in the walls. I used unfaced attic roll on above and below the speaker in the stud bay, not right up against it but just enough to block the stud bay from being a resonator. Otherwise you will hear these all over teh house. Next, sweetie wanted the grills painted to match the walls, and iut was very difficult to paint with thick latex paint. I thinned the paint and used compressed air to keep the grill holes blown out. Will definitely buy again at this price, great value for the money.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Good value for the moneyI bought these as a low cost option for a "workout" room in our basement. TIP - If you have a hard time re-installing the screens, try loosening the six mounting bracket screws a couple of turns. Over-tightening the screws (as I did initially) will warp the speaker frame just enough to prevent the screen from being seated properly.Overall, I am very satisfied with their performance and look.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from well,i had my doubts.but i was wrong.i purchased these speakers to fill a gap in my 7.1 home system powering paradigm ams 350 speakers is a harman kardon 354 with a paradigm ps 1000 subs.these were to fill in as the middle surrounds and after some minor setting changes they fit in and do a great job.i must say i was surprised at the sound and quality for such a low price,im going to use them in the shop and a friends starter system.we tried the without the subs but they just didnt have the greatest bass, the 6.5 driver does great with mid bass though.a-

Rated 4 out of 5 by from re-install home theater systemI used this speaker to fill existing home theater speaker cutouts in my new home. Really liked the mounting brackets and finished look of the speakers, but had a hard time getting the grill back onto the front of the speaker after installation. Suspect that tightening the mounting screws may have flexed the speaker and prevented the grill from fitting. Still liked the mounting apparatus much better than the Pyle center speaker that I also ordered.Overall very happy with sound and appearance.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Fantastic ValueBought 5 pairs of these for a 5.1 and a 7.1 home theater. Have the 5.1 set up with an Onkyo receiver, JBL center and JBL Sub. I was worried that the Daytons where too " tinny " when I first tested them out of the box. Boy was I wrong. Once I had everything hooked up these speakers sound awesome. As L and R front and L and R rears watching blue ray ( Star Trek ) off the PS3 is better than the theater. For the money for these speakers - you can not go wrong. I do recommend a subwoofer though as the deep bass is a little lacking from the in walls but overall you will be very satisfied with the value these speakers offer.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Dayton is the only one who see's the lightSeriously, Proficient, Boston accoustics, etc... All sell speakers at $200+ a pair. Why not get some car stereo speakers and paint them white? They sound just as good, possibly better at a fair price. Dayton did it one better, they sold a dedicated in wall speaker for a reasonable price. They sound better than most I have used, so why are the other speakers still being sold? I know, it's the solid Cherry cabinet right? Oh thats right, no cabinets on in-wall speakers. Then why are all the other speakers so much more?

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Don't waste money on expensive in walls!Unless you are planning to use them in a very loud bar these speakers have the power and quality you need. Even good bass for the size. Seal and insulate your stud-bays if possible. Don't waste hundreds of $ on products from other vendors. PARTS EXPRESS FTW.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Excellent Value and SoundI am very suprised by the quality of sound produced by these speakers. There is ample detail and bass is better than I expected. A friend of mine (who has expensive Speakercraft in-walls) was blown away when I told him what I paid for these. I think they sound as good or better than his! I am running them off an Onkyo home theater receiver.I installed mine in new construction, so I was able to build an enclosure for these between the studs, which helps with the bass response (and sound leakage into the wall and rooms above). I framed a box between the studs, sealed the edges with spray foam, and stuffed with fiberglass insulation, then drywalled over and cutout the opening.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Well built great sounding.I installed a pair of these recently for a customer and I was very impressed by the sound quality. it was a simple stereo arrangement with no subwoofer, and they did not need one, either. Great sound for a small in-wall speaker. The build quality was also good, strong metal grille etc.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Can't beat them for the price.I ordered these assuming I would receive somewhat of a cheaply made product. I was incorrect. These speakers were way nicer than I expected and sound great as the surround speakers in my home theater. I wouldn't use them as the front speakers because they don't have much low end, but for surrounds they work perfectly. I'd order them again in a heartbeat.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Very good performance at exceptional priceInstalled these two days ago and am very pleased. I rate the sound quality very good with my entry-level subwoofer handling the bass frequencies. The installation instructions describe a different mounting system than the actual system but the actual system was intuitive and easy to mount without instructions. These are an unbeatable value and look great when installed.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great productComing from a pair of dual 6.5" woofer towers I built myself, I was expecting to be disappointed. I wasn't. The installation was straightforward, and the performance is quite good, however, it's obviously lacking in low frequency, so a good subwoofer (or multiple) are necessary. In all, got 8 of these for $200. I'd say that's a pretty incredible value. I certainly won't feel bad upgrading if I ever want to.

All parts arrived in excellent shape complete with mounting instructions and all necessary hardware. The final results are awesome both with respect to sound and finished appearance.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Dayton Speakers ReviewI have had the pleasure of using the Dayton CS620W 6-1/2" 2 way in wall speakers for my seven speaker surround system for over two years. These speakers have and countinue to be the best speakers I have ever used in my in home theater system. So when I needed speaker for my new master bedroom I chose the Dayton speakers. Thanks: George A. Geer

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great surround sound!!Ordered 3 pairs of these recently for my surround setup in my living room. Sound is excellent especially when taking price into consideration. Don't waste your money on more expensive speakers when you can be thrilled with these!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great sound...great price!I ordered these to be the rear surrounds and decided to buy another pair for the side surrounds as well because they do the job very nicely. You can spend more, but the specs (and sound) of these are as good as anything out there. They are easy to install, they look great, and most of all--are up out of the way.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Great for low budget HT Surround SpeakersAnother cost effective gem from PE: these easy to install in-walls are a great choice for moderate powered HT applications. They sound fine for the money, but if you are looking for something with higher fidelity I would try one of the slightly more expensive Dayton models which come with a more robust tweeter instead. All in all, a good value & decent SQ.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Nice bang for the buckSound quality was really good and speakers were easy to install.
Date published: 2008-02-01
Rated 4 out of 5 by from Excellen value! They're more than adequate for the price. They're not super high-end, nor do they transparently image, but they come pretty close. For under $60 thats a real deal. You do need a subwoofer for HT duty or just bass-y music.Installation was easy the only skill required is to make well-measured, level holes in you walls. Oh and mind the local codes. . . Otherwise, setting up the speakers themselves is a snap. The imaging is really good and have great "sound stage" IF you follow the installation instructions, but you're doing that anyway, right. So, these are a great deal if you're not a picky "golden-ear."

Rated 3 out of 5 by from doing adequate HT surroundi have these doing surround duty. probably not my favorite Dayton in walls.install is easy, build quality is fine. the grilles have the large mesh openings, not the more expensive and sexy fine mesh, but its not a deal breaker for us.does the job fine. the tweeter is a cheap driver and even at this price point Dayton could do better. also, this unit has seen some price creep in the past few years. i paid a ALOT less, and as a result, my CS620W's sound better than yours!id switch them out if it were for music, as Dayton has some excellent in wall/ceiling speakers for a modest price, but they don't bother me at all as HT surrounds. unlike some Dayton speakers, these ones are not magic.lastly, if you are not aware, PE has fantastic support and return policy, so find out for yourself.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Bang for your buck!I hesitated for years before trying in-wall speakers. Purchased these thinking that I would not lose a lot of $$$ if I didn't like them -- turns out they are great sounding speakers. I am impressed! The only shortcoming in my view is the grille being used, would have preferred cloth over metal. Buy these and you won't be disappointed, unless you are a demanding audiophile.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from not badthese speakers sound good and they were sort of easy to install. aside from having to run the wires through the attic {not the speakers fault} they were really simple to install. i have only had them for a couple days so I can,t say anything for thier durability or I would have given them higher marks.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from I am surprised...When I purchased these speakers over the internet; I was a little skeptical of the performance due to the price associated with them. After installation and using them for a month; I am surprised at the sound and clarity these speakers offer! I am glad to have chosen this set of speakers!
Date published: 2007-08-21
Rated 4 out of 5 by from Best value I've found.I have tried out 1 pair and have subsequently bought 4 more. I have bought brand names, e.g. Infinity and Polk before for $180 to $200 per pair. At these prices, I can buy 4 pairs of these Dayton brand. They look good, well built, installs the same way as the brand name, and sounds very good. Many people have praised after hearing them at my house. I'm sure if you do a side by side test with the brand names, you might here better highs and lows from the brand name, but I'm not willing to pay 4x more. These are the best value... you cannot find any inwall or inceiling speakers out there for less.

Dayton Audio CS620W 6-1/2" 2-Way In-Wall Speaker Pair

I am putting these in my ceiling. Can they be in direct contact with insulation?

Asked by: LeeW
yes the insulation should be no problem later unless the cone can touch the fiberglass and get into the backside of the woofer frame

Can these speakers be quick mounted?

Asked by: megaPhone
They are designed to work with the included "sandwich" type mounting system, however, the resourceful individual could likely devise any number of alternative mounting arrangements. I should mention that doing so will void the warranty if any modifications are made to the structure.

I know you don't like to state a sound preference, especially among competing brands, however... I will be installing a pair of ceiling-mounted speakers for myself, not a customer. I need your advice regarding overall sound quality because once they're installed it's a done deal. My two options are QM650C or CS620W. In my experience speakers with separated tweeters vs coaxially mounted ones are generally better sounding, especially regarding bass response. These however are going in the ceiling where the round design would be much less noticeable. The conundrum is sound quality vs aesthetics. Please, please give me your thoughts on these two products. I have no other point of reference.
Asked by: RollandRahr
In that situation I always go for sound quality.Although the QM650C co-axial speaker is designed in such a way as to remove most of the limitations of the standard coaxial speaker types, it has a bit less power handling and is less efficient than the CS620W. The CS650W also has a better crossover circuit. All these things point toward the CS650W as being the better choice in my opinion, and is the one I would choose were I doing this install.

i have my ceiling pre wired for speakers. will these be a good fit? what would you recommend around the same price point

Asked by: Jeckleusmc
As for being a good fit, these are designed to fit into a 7-14" x 10-3/4" cutout. At the price point, these are far and away the most popular in-wall speaker we sell. We do carry a few other brands, however, audio is completely subject to the interpretation and opinion of the observer. That being the case, I cannot say what might sound better to you among the brands we carry. You may prefer one, I might prefer another, and your neighbor may not be able to distinguish a difference between the two. At any rate, the Daytons are the top seller in their category.

Enclosure Volume

Is there an optimal volume of space that should be behind these speakers? In other words, should the volume of space iint he wall be thought of as a "sealed cabinet" of a specific volume for best bass perfomance?
Asked by: jonheal
These (and other) in-wall speakers will typically use a woofer with a high "Qts" parameter, which means they're suited to large enclosures, or no enclosure at all. To my knowledge, there really isn't an "optimum" sized cavity for them, however, one could test fairly easily with a couple pieces of scrap wood or foam insulation board or some such.
