Dayton Audio is pleased to introduce the new Commercial Engineering (CE) Series of small loudspeaker drivers. Engineers, designers, and integrators will benefit from how effortlessly these speaker components satisfy the diverse demands associated with consumer electronics and audio-enabled projects.

Multiple types and styles are available within the CE Series driver family. Each was produced to provide excellent audio quality no matter what the overall system design goals may be, and to suit a wide spectrum of engineering requirements. These versatile yet economical loudspeakers are available in sizes from 28 mm (1-1/8") to 90 mm (3-1/2") in diameter, and with power ratings from 1.5 watts to 5 watts continuous RMS power.

The CE46P-4 provides exceptional range with surprising bass, plus features you’d expect from a much larger driver. Its high-quality design features a paper cone, generous rubber surround, textile spider, high-performance neodymium motor, and an injection-molded frame with gasket for conventional front or rear mounting. It’s perfect for multimedia applications, product displays, miniature speakers, and line arrays.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great for a portable speakerPortable speakers seem to be the hot new thing to be building. I have built a couple of large portable boomboxes previously and wanted to see how small I could go without compromising too much sound quality. These are a pretty good price, and after rigging a pair up in a temporary enclosure (approx. 0.02 cu.ft.) they are starting to sound pretty great! I would buy more. Awesome for any tiny-speaker application I can think of.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Very SuprisedThese sound quite good! a lot better than any other 2-3 watt USB powered speakers. I bought these with the intention of using them for a portable speaker, however, In the end i used them for some small computer speakers powered by a tiny class d amplifier. For ports I used 1/2 inch pvc at 2 1/4 inches long and a piece of polyfill cut from a roll in each box. Solid walnut and maple boxes with leather speaker gaskets are roughly .02 cu. ft. A few coats of poly and they look as good as they sound.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from full, balanced toneHas anyone directly compared performance of this speaker vs the Visaton BF45-4 Ohm 1.8"? Dayton appears to be very similar, cost less than a third as much. After hearing Dayton I'm so impressed I can hardly imagine the Visaton being much better.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Good for its sizeThis speaker has surprisingly good range and decent sensitivity for its size. It's a good match for very low-power class D or T amps that are 4-ohm stable. I plan on using it with a tiny PAM8403-based 3W stereo amp to make a USB/battery-powered speaker to use with mobile devices.

what size box would you recommend for two of these in a sealed enclosure?

Thanks!"0.03 cubic foot sealed enclosure for a pair of these, or 0.04 cubic feet if you wanted to use a passive radiator with them. A sealed box will give you an F3 of 144 Hz, if used with a passive they will extend to 120 Hz."

Is the power handling ratings the measure of how much power we provide to the speaker to be able to use it? At what voltage or current do I do it? Or do I just make sure that the product of the current and voltage stays between 3-6 Watts?

Power Handling is the measure of how much power the voice coil of the speaker can tolerate on a continuous basis. Power is calculated from current and voltage, so make sure that the net result of this remains between 3 and 6 watts per driver. (This is usually simplified by dividing the available amplifier power by the number of drivers, and making sure it falls within the range between RMS and Max power handling.)

I decided to use 2 of these little speakers in a 0.05 to 0.06 cubic foot enclosure. My question is, how low of a bass response would I get if i add part# 264-1060 in there with them? Or would I have to change the size of the enclosure, for good mating?

The answer to this question will depend on how the box simulation changes with the passive radiator present. You will need to use a free program like WinISD to simulate your changes. This is a simple process; you just need to enter the driver T/S parameters, box size, and tuning frequency to model, and the program will do the rest. Keep in mind that the passive radiator functions like a virtual bass port having the same diameter as the passive radiator's cone, and with a port length that provides the same mass of air as the total moving mass of the passive radiator.

What would be the recommended sealed box size for 4 of these? What low end response would I get out of that recommend box? (Building my first portable speaker setup)

The recommended sealed volume for four of these would be 0.06 cubic feet (1.72 liters) for an F3 of 150 Hz.

In my previous question regarding two of these in a ported enclosure, you said 1.3 L (0.46 cuft). I assume you meant .046 cuft for the pair, correct?
