Dayton Audio CE Series CE32A-8 1-1/4" Mini Speaker 8 Ohm
Dayton Audio CE Series CE32A-8 1-1/4" Mini Speaker 8 Ohm is rated 5.0 out of 5 by 1.
Rated 5 out of 5 by from Audiophile grade soundLet me start off my saying this was my first cheap home audio project. I usually work with car audio at my dad's shop so I am quite experienced with loudspeakers and amps. I decided to try and make a small pair of speakers that would be extremely portable, yet sound great. Let me tell you all something, Dayton has truly made some great tiny little speakers. If I could describe these I would say they sound like very high end fullrange speakers. Everything that you could want from a fullrange is there except two things: SPL and bass. But the sound these little marvels produce makes up for it!!! They are not fatiguing. They sound absolutely heavenly yet a bit ghostly with only two of them. The soundstage and imaging is awesome and the mids are warm and the crisp treble nicely rolled off at the top. The lows are very acceptable though. I'm currently powering them with a Dayton DTA-100a and I absolutely love them. For the enclosures I used two PVC end caps you can buy from home depot for 69¢, drilled a little hole at the closed side for the wire, and used this awesome stuff called The Amazing Goop my dad uses for all sorts of stuff, even repairing surrounds!!! They are airtight and look funny but they are awesome. The goop is easy to work with, so if and when they blow I can pull them out, reuse the PVC caps and start over for cheap. Oh, and I almost forgot to mention these things can take some abuse I think I'm running around 5-30 watts rms to them. :P In the future I will make a set with 16 or 32 of them for each of the two stereo speakers. That will solve the two problems these tiny speakers face with their displacement.

Can I hook up 6-8 of these speakers to the Lepai LP-2020A+? If so, how would I wire the speakers? I've hooked up 4 and they sound really nice, I'd like to try and add more speakers. I don't mind a lower output to have more of a "surround sound" feel.

Asked by: QSJoel
Yes it is possible. I would recommend four or eight per channel, wired in series/parallel. Four will provide an 8 ohm load per channel, eight will provide a 4 ohm load.

Hello, these are rated 4W MAX but if i crossed them at 8kHz could i get a power handling more in the 10W-20W range? Thanks.

Asked by: speakerfreack
Yes crossing them higher will lessen the current flow and allow them to play louder with less power draw enabling more output.

Would this work in a two-way system for hi-fi?

I have some Dayton 8" woofers, and I want to build a two-way speaker system for hi-fi listening. Do these drivers have good enough highs to do this?
Asked by: Drumolator
You will have one major problem with sensitivity using this as a tweeter. The top end is a bit ragged as well, you would be farther ahead using a small neo tweeter instead.
