Dayton Audio BS36 36" LCR Speaker Bar Black

The Dayton Audio BS36 LCR Speaker Bar uses long-excursion woofers for superb dynamic impact and bass extension, unlike the thin-sounding speakers built into HDTVs. When the BS36 is combined with a pair of SAT-BK satellite speakers and a powered sub like the Dayton Audio SUB-80, you'll have created a spacious-sounding yet compact-sized surround sound experience that will impress family and friends.

The BS36 LCR speaker bar is easy to install, and the beautiful hand rubbed black lacquer finish will turn a Steinway piano green with envy! Each speaker bar is packaged with a pair of rubber speaker feet for tabletop mounting.

Specifications: • Three 3-3/4" paper cone woofers • Three 5/8" aluminum tweeters • Power handling: 50 watts RMS/80 watts max • Impedance: 8 ohms • Frequency response: 100-20,000 Hz • SPL: 87 dB 1W/1m • Dimensions: 4-3/4" H x 37" W x 4-1/4" D. Dayton Audio BS36 36" LCR Speaker Bar Black
Dayton Audio BS36 36" LCR Speaker Bar Black is rated 4.4412 out of 5 by 34.
Rated 5 out of 5 by from Dayton Audio BS36 LCR Speaker BarBought this speaker bar to replace a set of Boston Acoustics modular speaker as I got tired of looking at all of the speakers. Have the speaker bar paired with a Yamaha SFW050 Subwoofer and to say the combination sounds amazing is an understatement. Nice highs with adequate mid range which is perfect for our small family room. For the price you can't beat the quality. Nice sleek design and delivery was four days to Canada from the time the order was placed. I had no expectations so this was a terrific surprise when it was all hooked up and ready to go.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Great value and FunctionThis is a great value for the sound you get from this 3 channel sound bar. It's perfect for enhancing the viewing and listening experience in casual watching/listening set-ups. If you have a receiver available to power it, it avoids the other powered sound bars on the market and offers a price point well below the other non powered sound bars. I'm using this with my 40 inch TV and it looks proportional. One downside is the terminals for the three channels are not standard banana plug size, so connecting large gauge speaker cable requires some creativity.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Fabulous SoundbarThis unit sits under my 65" TV and looks great and sounds wonderful. I have it matched with an 8" subwoofer, to help with the bass output.I needed a soundbar so an external speaker package would be acceptable and this one works well.Actually I'm surprised that it works as well as it does in a 15' x 20' room.If they ever make a 46" unit I'll get that one too.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from center channel speakerI am a professional sound system installer for large rooms & movie theaters around the world, my own TV is a 70". Since the speakers at the movie theaters we install is located 2/3rd of the way up on the screen to make the sound appears as it comers from the mouth, my home theater 7.1 system. I tried my center speaker below the TV screen the sound appears to come from below the TV, same as putting the speaker on top of the TV instead of the center, or the mouth....my correction to this problem was to install (2) Dayton sound bars install (1) speaker bar above the TV, & (1) speaker bar below the TV. This make the sound appears to come from the mouth, I wired the top L/R speakers in series, the bottom L/R speaker in series, the two center speakers in series, parallel all, the ohms should be 5-ohms or close enough. Now the sound is movie theater quality, appears the words come from the mouths, great effects, & it looks great like it suppose to be there.....works for me.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Bang for the buckThis sound bar doesn't have a lot of the bells and whistles, or name, that a lot of brands have, but it produces a powerful, clean sound at a tremendous price. Sleek looking, though it doesn't come with any mounting hardware, which I did not need for my purposes, but would have been nice to have as an option. Recommended to me by an audiophile friend, and I couldn't be happier.

Dayton Audio BS36 36" LCR Speaker Bar Black

Can this sound bar be directly wired off the tv rather than through an amp? In other words, can it be used in addition to the tv's built in speakers?

Asked by: russellernst5
Unfortunately this sound bar requires a separate receiver in order to work properly. Whether it can be used along with the built in TV speakers depends on the TV itself.

Is the 8ohm rating a final parallel load of all three channels?

Asked by: nascarguy301
This is designed to be used as three independent front channels as left, center and right, so the 8 ohm rating is for each individual channel.

Is the power rating per channel or total? Also, how's the imaging/staging?

I'm a little worried that because of the layout of the tweeters, it's going to pull the staging to the right.
Asked by: macjeffr
The power rating and impedance for this is per channel. In an LCR setup with the three being driven by a multichannel processor, there should not be any trouble with the sound stage for a speaker of this type.

Wired in series?

Need bar style for center channel. Reading about wiring this one. Why can't all 3 speakers be wired in series?
Asked by: jsmiddleton4
This is a left/center/right speaker to replace a normal left center and right speaker. If you have a Left and Right speaker, you need a center channel speaker. LikeDayton Audio CCS-33B 3-Way Center Channel Speaker Blackor Pure Acoustics Supernova C Center Channel Speaker Black. You cannot wire this speaker in series as it it will raise the impedance to 24 ohms. And the level difference (volume) between left /center/ right will be very obvious, and hard to overcome as the center speaker is the most important speaker in a home theater system. Not a good idea.

Using this LCR bar as center one..

This meets my requirements for a "slim/long" speaker for my front channel. But it's (from the pictures) wired as LCR, with 8 ohms each.If I understand things right, depending on how I wire it up, the best I can do is a 5.33 load (3x 8ohm -- two in parallel and one series) to a singular feed from my Denon AVR-891The specs of the Denon says it can handle a per-speaker load of 6 to 16 ohm impedance.I like the weight (it will be mounted with brackets on top of my extended hinged LCD 55")... and the piano black matches the overall scenario. I need something like this to blend in, and be on the same plane/mounting bracket as my 55" -- and not be an "eyesore/boxy" thingy... I hope I have that explained well...I'm looking to replace my existing center channel speaker which is sitting, "in the way", below my TV on a sideboard, and lets just say it's ancient, and a plain wood box, and needs to go.So, my question is, am I on the "wrong" tract trying to use something like this (designed for LCR) as a "center channel" -- or is there something else I should consider for a "center channel" that isn't "boxy and small and not piano-finish"....I'm quite pleased with the rest of my 7.1 setup (with PLIIz height instead of L/R)... and the center channel I have does well, but it's not cosmetically acceptable.Am I over-concerned with the 5.33 vs. 6 ohm? Am I calculating this wrong for 3x 8ohms? Or is there a better solution for "long, slim, piano black", etc to consider...
Asked by: ChuckSC
Not only is the impedance not what you want, it is imbalanced between the three units, if wired as an asymmetric pair, because the two tandem wired units will have lower output vs. the single wired one.Plus this is probably wider than what you need or want in the long run and could get in the way of your next pair of front main speakers. So, if you want a pure centre unit, why not give one of these a try instead. They are all 8 Ohm units and will hence not give your Yamaha any indigestion and a blown amp!By the way:The BIC centre speakers are NOT an integrated LCR setup, judging from the pictures. With them, LCR simply refers to the fact they can be used in any position for any channel in your system. They certainly have a wide enough frequency range to dispense with sub-woofers (which I personally really do not like at all).303-438 BIC Formula FH6-LCR 6-1/2" 2-Way MTM Center Channel Speaker303-466 BIC VK6-LCR 6-1/2" 3-Way Center Channel Speaker300-674 Dayton Audio CCS-33B 3-Way Center Channel Speaker Black

Is it powered?

Asked by: Wii the people
No, this is not an active/powered speaker (no internal amp). It is designed to connect to a receiver or other "speaker-level" output.*Power handling: 50 watts RMS/80 watts max
