Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great speaker for the price!I just added a pair of these to my home surround system with a klipsch center channel and my old bose for my rear surround. I am very happy with the sound coming out of these little guys! Buy them, you won't be disappointed!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from B652 CommentsI have to admit I was skeptical about purchasing these bookshelf speakers due to the low cost, but the reviews convinced me to give them a try. I hooked them up to one of my small (8w) tube amps and was blown away by the performance. The bass was (for me) a little too rolling, so I added more fiberfill to each cabinet and it made the bass much more solid. The high end is a little (again for me) lacking total clarity, but I will clean that up by replacing the 6.8 mf caps with audio grade caps. Overall your definitely can't go wrong with this package, a most positive experience.

I bought a pair and I am very pleased . I would recommend them very highly . They are base shy but sound and image great .

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Solid ValueFor the thirty nine dollars i paid for these , i feel like i stole them. Im currently powering them with the 4x100 watt class-t tk2050 board and a 24v 10 amp genssi power supply that i got from amazon for $35 shipped.....PE is asking to much for their power supplys. The clarity and power from this setup really surprised me, considering im accustomed to the D8 towers ( MTM 8" dayton woofers and 1 1/8 silk dome ) powered by my onkyo TX-SR626. Instead of getting a sound bar for my gf's tv i got a pair of these and i cant imagine any sound bar being better t...i dont feel like im missing much bass ( esp for her apartment ) and they can play louder than necessary. I didn't give them 5 stars because i feel that the uppers can sometimes be a tad harsh sounding....reminds me of the first time i heard the dayton metal dome tweeter compared to the silk dome......overall id recommend these to any and everyone.....this would be a perfect combo with a sub.

Is this speaker ported in the rear?

In the pictures the B652 is not ported, but in the product video on the page, it shows that the speakers are actually ported in the rear.
Asked by: Freudchicken
The B652s were a ported design as a prototype, which is what is pictured in the video. I apologize that we have not updated the video, but the final design on the B652s is a sealed alignment. They are not ported.

How thick is the cabinet? 1/2" or 3/4"?

Asked by: Eugenester
My calipers show the cabinets to be about 10mm thick MDF. Removing the drivers and bracing the cabinets with 1/2" or 5/8" dowel rods improves the performance. Horizontal braces are much easier to install. One near the top, one near the center, and one near the bottom stiffens the cabinet substantially.

Adding insulation

1) Would adding insulation (or more insulation) inside the cabinet be beneficial for better sound?2) I also saw what appeared to be the exact speaker labeled with the KLH name, except it was ported. What is the advantage or disadvantage? Thanks.
Asked by: nook
I opened mine out of curiosity and there is a 1" thick piece of batten material at the back. You could buy some acoustic fill: http://www.parts-express.com/pe/showdetl.cfm?Partnumber=260-317 and loosely put it in at random, but I would leave these as-is. I build cabinets and it is my opinion they are too small to port and it would change their great linear characteristics. The KLH would not be identical and probably contain different drivers designed for porting.

How to connect to pc

I want to buy these bookshelf speakers and I don't know nothing about wiring, can someone help of how much and specifically which wires I need to connect those speakers with sub to the PC. I showed which amp and sub i want to add with speakers and is one amp enough for speakers and a sub?. I'm completely new at audio configurations so sorry if it's hard to understand what I mean.
Asked by: NojAh
Well, the biggest part of the answer to your question is it depends on the sound card on your PC. You'll need a cable to carry the signal from the PC to the amplifier. The second thing you should know is that you don't need the Lepai amp. The SUB-800 has an amplifier built in, and if you look at the picture of the back, you'll see that it has speaker jacks labeled "Hi Level Output to Speakers". You want to connect your bookshelf speakers to that output. The Bookshelf speakers come with speaker wire that will work for this connection. Connect the PC's audio output to the Subwoofer's "Line In" RCA jacks. You'll need a cable to adapt from the PC's output, very likely a 1/8" stereo plug, to the L/R RCAs on the Sub.This should be an excellent combination for your pc. If you have any other questions, feel free to pm me. Good luck!

Is it easy enough to remove either the front or back baffle to do the modifications, or are people going through the woofer hole?

Asked by: msartw
Box is sealed and you MUST go through the speaker holes. That being said, I had to remove the tweeter and reach in and push the woofer out for access to the interior the first time :: that cursed speaker mounting tape !!!Wire lengths are really very good so you can set the woofer on the front baffle while rewiring.I would advise that you will encounter massive blobs of hot glue that make it rather difficult to access the solder points. I had to destroy the 3.3uF Elna caps to get them out for modz... No recycling here ...

Would these work with an old 80s 30W receiver?

I'm trying to find some decent speakers for this 1980 Technics SA-202 I have sitting around. Its a 30W per speaker system. My current speakers are some Yamaha whatever that just sound super bass-y and lack any balance.
Asked by: Jeffrey S
Yep, I'd bet these Daytons will luv that ol Technics. For what its worth, I power mine with an old 1994ish Kenwood receiver.
