Dayton Audio B652 6-1/2" 2-Way Bookshelf Speaker Pair
Dayton Audio B652 6-1/2" 2-Way Bookshelf Speaker Pair is rated 4.352 out of 5 by 321.
Rated 3 out of 5 by from Great Speaker, With Simple ProblemsThis is a very nice speaker for the money. My most critical complaint is the grille cloth is not adhered to the front panel well enough. When the speaker is producing bass, the grille actually causes a rattle/distortion due to its shaking against the wood. A simple repair is to use more adhesive when installing the cloth. I purchased 16 vsets of them. Nearly ALL of them had this problem. In my case, the speakers were concealed in an organ speaker chamber. I simply removed all the front panels. They were not needed at all.I did find a couple 6 1/2" speakers were not totally tightened down, but shipping does strange things. Overall a decent quality unit. I would give it 5 stars without the simple problems.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great speakers for the priceThese speakers are doing every thing I could ask for.Along with my AMP the sounds are sharp and the Bass responses are amazing. I am not a tech type but my ears tell me the speakers are worth every penny I spent, and would do it again if the time arises.. As a side note, packing was great so the speakers came undamaged, thats a PLUSS .. Marsh

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Average SpeakerExcellent reviews convinced me to buy these speakers. I can hear distortion in the higher frequencies. Overall they don't produce a nice full sound either. They sound like small speakers. For the price they are probably adequate. My wife thought they sounded awesome, but she also doesn't mind listening to music from her I-phone speaker...

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Good Bookshelf Speakers on a BudgetI finally broke down & bought a set of Dayton Audio - B652 6 1/2" Bookshelf Speakers. I opened up the box & hooked them up & they had bad leaks all threw the speaker cabinets. This is not good for any speaker cabinets, little alone sealed ones. I had to take & remove the tweeters & woofers so I could seal the seems of the speaker cabinets to keep them from leaking. It took about an hour to fix the leaking problems & I reinstalled the tweeters & woofers in to the speaker cabinets. Finally they are correct & can be used the way they are ment to be out of the box. I have tried them on a Yamaha - R-S201 200-watt 2 channel receiver, a modified Lepai - LP-2020A+ T-Amp, a Kinter - MA-170 2 channel Mini Amp, & a old school beast my Optimus - STAV-3350 200-watt 2 channel receiver with an Optimus - 10 Band Stereo Equalizer. All these amps made these sealed bookshelf speakers perform pretty good. These can play pretty loud on the highs, but if you want deep bass you will need to buy other speakers. Don't get me wrong, most people listening to music will enjoy them. But for someone like me who lived threw the 1980's & 1990's & grew up with 12" & 15" tower speakers as your main speakers, you will need far more powerful speakers. But for there price, they are pretty decent all around bookshelf speakers. I would recommend these speakers to anyone who needs a good "but not great" set of bookshelf speakers or a set of replacements. Add 1/4 pound of Poly Fill Speaker Cabinet Stuffing & you will get better low end bass to remove some of the hollow sounds in the woofer. You get what you pay for, plan & simple.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Great for an economy speakerI have a friend running the 652's with a Lepai 2020, and my pair are hooked up to a Lepai 269. Plenty of sound for both our LRs, not a big bass fan, but I hardly use my Kenwood and Polk Audios anymore. (probably should unplug 'em to save vampire power drain...)

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Good for what it is, Great for the priceFor the price, you can't beat these. For HT or music use, they work fine. You do need to EQ some mid's to make them sound good. Add a sub for anything below 90 Hz. Good build and a great value. 4 stars because the 652 AIR's sound much better.

Dayton Audio B652 6-1/2" 2-Way Bookshelf Speaker Pair

If I install 1 1/8" diameter x 6 1/2" length flared port tubes to these bookshelf speakers for a tuned frequency of ruffly 45 Hz, will they play lower than the sealed set up? Or is this not worth the time & money & should just replace the woofers instead?

Asked by: Pain for Fun 1980
I would not recommend porting these enclosures. The woofers have a high Q bump in the response already and will actually play lower if you keep them sealed. A port that small will probably have port noise issues anyway, so changing woofers will not be very beneficial.

I wanted to use the drivers from these for a project but I cannot find any specs for them. Where can I find them? They are the current version with 4 ohm drivers and a 6.8 cap crossover.

Asked by: Neel
Since these drivers are part of a pre-built speaker, we do not have any information or parameters for individual drivers. You might be able to find something third part on our forum.

What gauge speaker wire would be good for these to run to a lepai amp?

Asked by: jake3759
18 gauge wire will be perfectly fine for these.

Recently asked about VSX-44 with these speakers. In the specs it also has a listing of 140 Watts per Channel (6 ohms 1 kHz 1 % 1ch Driven). Why the difference from 80 watts @ 8 ohms and would this make a difference? Recommendation?

Asked by: mcgruff764
As long as the amp will handle a 6 ohm load it will work with these speakers. The reason the output power goes up with a lower impedance rating is because the lower impedance draws more current.

I've heard of some bad quality control/manufacturing back in 2013. Has this problem been addressed?

Asked by: lillod
yes. There was only a short version that didn't sound as good. All problems were resolved in 2013.

O. K. I'll try again, I have a Sony STD-DH800 reciever, I have R,L,C speakers 2 surrounds, and a sub. making a nice 5.1 can I add a pair of Dayton B652 to make a 7.1 or possibly 7.2.

Asked by: gleason45
Yes these speakers would work very well for that application.
