Dayton Audio 8" Reference Series HO Subwoofer and Cabinet Package

Buy this 0.75 cubic foot knock-down cabinet together with the Dayton Audio RSS210HO-4 10" subwoofer (at regular price) and save half off the original price of the cabinet. That's a savings of over $35!

About the Cabinet

This particular cabinet is designed specifically for the Dayton Audio 8" Reference Series High Output subwoofer, but works for any subwoofer with an overall diameter of 8-1/2" or less, and a cutout requirement of 7-3/8" or less. The sealed enclosure design creates a subwoofer system with a Qtc of 0.644 and an f3 of 40 Hz when used with the Dayton Audio RSS210HO-4 and minimal fill. Adding five pounds of Acousta-Stuf will create a critically damped subwoofer system.

During the CNC manufacturing process, rabbets dadoes are cut into the back panel for precise panel alignment. A unique two-piece brace adds superior rigidity without affecting the subwoofer's performance. Both side panels feature 3/4" rabbeted extensions with recesses to perfectly install the first piece of the two-part, double thick baffle. Plate amplifier installation is made easy by following the scribed interior guide with a jig saw and by modifying one of the braces.

The end result is a resonance-free, sealed subwoofer cabinet that is purpose-built to extract the best performance from Dayton Audio's 8" High Output Reference Series subwoofer. All that's left to do is finish it to match your décor or paint it to stand out. When your friends ask about it, you get the pleasure of saying, "I built it myself!"

Specifications: • Panel thickness: 3/4", front baffle is 1-1/2" • Panel material: Medium Density Fiberboard (MDF) • Finished net cabinet volume (subtracting the double thick baffle and bracing): 0.75 cubic feet • External dimensions: 13" H x 13" W x 13.75" D • Subwoofer recess: 1/2" • Weight: 20 lbs. • Made in the U.S.A.

About the Subwoofer

The Dayton Audio Reference Series subwoofers take the quality and performance of the much acclaimed Reference Series woofer line into the subwoofer realm. As with the rest of the Reference Series, the main focus of these subwoofers is ultra-low-distortion. Second, third, and intemodulation distortion are kept extremely low by utilizing three short-circuit paths within the motor structure. A durable aramid fiber spider and extensive venting throughout provide quiet and uniform excursion. The black anodized cone, rubber surround, and custom basket give this driver a unique, high-end look.

Dayton Audio 8" Reference Series HO Subwoofer and Cabinet Package
Dayton Audio 8" Reference Series HO Subwoofer and Cabinet Package is rated 5.0 out of 5 by 1.
Rated 5 out of 5 by from very fast and detailedI am a high end audio guy, always have been and love a realistic sound at home. I am running high end dynaudio speakers being run by a Pass Labs power amp and needed to augment my speakers with something that could fill in the area under around 40hrz due to the low end limitations of my speakers. I figured at these prices there would be no harm trying to build one of these for a 2 channel high end sub. WOW! I got it done last night and it is not even broke in yet and this thing is fast!!!. and detailed beyond what I believed it would be capable of. I used the Yung 300 watt no boost plate amp and it mathces perfectly with this setup and allows precise control of the sub. I have a friend that has a Martin Logan Grotto in his system which is a $1500 dollar high end sub and I actually prefer this sub to it so far. I will say one thing. It says in the description to use 5lbs of poly fill to make it damped, I bought 2 lbs and it filled the whole cabinet(I don't know how someone could get 5lbs in this cabinet!! But it dampened it down perfectly and now it is as tight as any sub that I have heard and perfect for music which is the only reason I wanted it. If the high end guys knew how good these little guys are then I will not be surprised if they run out of them soon.

How do i add an amplifier?

Asked by: Hank123
You can either add a small amplifier in the back of the enclosure or use a table top style amp like our SA230.

Thoughts about throwing 450 watts rms at this for a car audio application ? ? I know max is 600, but 450 in a this sealed enclosure seems like too much.

Asked by: HiFiLuggage
Having the headroom will be nice but you will have to keep an eye on excursion limits so you do not damage the driver.

Is porting this 8" woofer box possible/useful? What port & method is recommended if I want to experiment?

Asked by: AbraxasAngel
Porting this woofer will only be beneficial in a larger volume enclosure. You may try a passive radiator although you will need a pair of 10" size to keep up with excursion levels.

I plan on using an NHT mono sub amp, do I still need a boost plate ?

Asked by: Skinman
If you are referring to a bass boost, sealed subwoofers can benefit from this although it is subjective and application specific in most cases. This woofer will reach into the mid 30's in room which may be enough for your application.

Can I add a plate amp on the back, and which do you reccomend?

Asked by: Buck1
I just added the Yung 300 watt no boost plate amp to the back of mine and it works perfectly. You of coarse will have to cut out for the amp.

WIth the Yung amplifiers that are 300 watts into 4ohms, which one would be best for this sub for high end music use Boost or no Boost at 30 hz.

Asked by: harleyguy07
I would recommend the model with boost for this sealed design. It will help bring up the bottom end a bit and level out the room peak an octave or so higher.
