Dayton Audio 15" Ultimax Subwoofer and Cabinet Package

Buy this 3.0 cubic foot knock-down cabinet together with the Dayton Audio UM15-22 15" subwoofer (at regular price) and save half off the original price of the cabinet. That's a savings of over $60!

About the Cabinet

This particular cabinet is designed specifically for the Dayton Audio 15" Ultimax subwoofer, but works for any subwoofer with an overall diameter of 15-3/8" or less, and a cutout requirement of 14" or less. For optimum performance with the Ultimax 15" subwoofer, add three pounds of Acousta-Stuf polyfill for a Qtc of 0.707 and an f3 of 35 Hz.

During the CNC manufacturing process, rabbets and dadoes are cut into the back panel for precise panel alignment. A unique two-piece brace adds superior rigidity without affecting the subwoofer's performance. Both side panels feature 3/4" rabbeted extensions with recesses to perfectly install the first piece of the two-part, double thick baffle. Plate amplifier installation is made easy by following the scribed interior guide with a jig saw and by modifying one of the braces.

The end result is a resonance-free, sealed subwoofer cabinet that is purpose-built to extract the best performance from Dayton Audio's 15" Ultimax subwoofer. All that's left to do is finish it to match your décor or paint it to stand out. When your friends ask about it, you get the pleasure of saying, "I built it myself!"

Specifications: • Panel thickness: 3/4", front baffle is 1-1/2" • Panel material: Medium Density Fiberboard (MDF) • Finished net cabinet volume (subtracting the double thick baffle, bracing, and woofer volume): 3.0 cubic feet • External dimensions: 19.25" H x 19.25" W x 20" D • Subwoofer recess: 7/16" • Weight: 52 lbs. • Made in the U.S.A.

About the Subwoofer

The Ultimax Series of dual voice coil subwoofers, from Dayton Audio, are not for the faint of heart. Built using the latest in subwoofer technology, Ultimax subwoofers are the pinnacle of low frequency driver design. An Ultimax subwoofer tests the strength of your foundation with fast, articulate, gut-wrenching bass.

Dual 2 ohm voice coils allow for stereo 2 ohm and mono 1 ohm wiring configurations when connecting to high current car audio and professional audio amplifiers to extract maximum power. For home audio applications, simply wire the voice coils in series for a benign 4 ohm load for greater amplifier compatibility.

To improve power handling, increase thermal management, and reduce power compression, Dayton Audio designed the Ultimax Series with large black anodized formers and vented pole pieces, under-spider ventilation, and two-layer copper voice coils.

Over 1-1/2" of travel (3/4" Xmax) is kept completely linear through the use of dual spiders that also limit distortion and rocking modes. "Tall-boy" rubber surrounds with integrated gaskets maintain driver surface area during extreme excursion moments. Thick, one-piece Nomex honeycomb covered cones are covered with woven, heavy-duty glass fibers creating ultra-still cones that resist deformation.

A large copper sleeve and copper pole cap in the motor reduce energy storage from inductance, with the side benefit of lowering distortion for "faster" response. Large dual-stacked, high-energy magnets handle the heavy lifting and bring Qts down to a level where Ultimax subwoofers can be used in vented or sealed cabinets and enclosures.

Specifications: • Power handling: 800 watts RMS/1,600 watts max • Le: 1.31 mH • Impedance: 4 ohms  (2 ohms/coil) • Re: 3.4 ohms • Frequency range: 15-1,500 Hz • Fs: 19.5 Hz • SPL: 89.5 dB 2.83V/1m • Vas 7.92 cu. ft. • Qms: 2.4 • Qes: 0.59 • Qts: 0.47 • Xmax: 19 mm • Dimensions: Overall diameter: 15.28", Cutout: 13.78", Depth: 7.55".

Dayton Audio 15" Ultimax Subwoofer and Cabinet Package is rated 4.8333 out of 5 by 6.
Rated 5 out of 5 by from Yes!Yes! That's all I can say about this thing. I just received this behemoth a few weeks ago, and other than weighing 30,000 pounds, it is an amazing sub. Simple to hook up. I have (2) of the Ultimax 15" subs and 3cu/ft box combo's, and I currently only have one hooked up. I could not imaging having both of them hooked up in the same room. I have this powered with the Dayton 1000w Rack mountable amplifier, and one of them in a 3cu/ft box has no problem putting out 20hz with authority and shaking pictures off the walls!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from So smooth and powerfulI bought this and absolutely love it! The response is so smooth! This thing moves quite a bit a air and has some insane excursion. I'm thinking of adding some passive radiaters but for a sealed system it puts out.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Good Value & PerformanceI am powering the the PE 15" sub kit (300-7097) with a INUKE 1000 for a non-critial listening garage system. I wired each 2 ohm coil of the sub to each channel. Another option is to wire the sub coils in series (4 ohm) and set the Inuke to bridged. I have not tried this yet as the unit is stable into the 2 ohm sub and is able to just about push the sub to it's limit. I am using a 20 hz high pass FMOD as a subsonic filter and a RCA to XLR adaptor from the sub output on an old receiver for bass management. No problems with the input sensitivity on the INUKE. For a combined $450, it is quite a good sub / amp system. Tip for a grill that does not interfere with the high excursion cone: use the Formed Metal Grill Pair (Part #: 262-884) with the penn elcom 2" rubber feet (use 4) as standoffs. The grill will need a single cut to fit however.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from So far so goodReally just breaking it in, but the initial results are very good. The driver itself has truly excellent build quality. The cabinet's edges were crisp and the measurements and cuts were exact. Maybe within 1/32"

Rated 5 out of 5 by from great performanceI purchased this about a month ago ...I decided to cover the cabinet with cherry veneer. After I finished it I had to find a driver cover. Found one online from another vendor. .....looks good now. I had a epik legend sub. But I sold the legend. So now I have all the bass in my theater area that I need ... :-) . Im still tweeking the amp.... (dayton 1000watt plate amp).

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Easy Build Great SoundI received this kit July 8, 2013 and started the build on July 16, 2013. Taking my time and allowing the glue to dry between assembly steps I had it up and running on July 20,2013. I stuffed the enclosure with about 3 pounds of fiberglass batting I had laying around and covered the enclosure with some cheap carpet. Lacking clamps I screwed it together with deck screws, lots of deck screws and wood glue. I sealed all the seams with silicone sealer and allowed it to dry for a couple days before mounting the driver. It may not be the greatest looking subwoofer ever built but since it will be hidden on the floor out of sight next to my equipment rack that's of little concern to me. As to how it sounds, in one word awesome. At the moment I'm using one channel of my five channel amp to drive it and, at least for the time being, this amp producing approximately 300 watts into 4 ohms is providing the low end grunt my bookshelf speakers were lacking. Measuring the system after the build produced the following results: Fs=35.66 Hz with a Qts of .721. Not too shabby and playing around with the amount of stuffing and allowing the driver to break in I may be able to produce better results but it certainly sounds great as it is. Highly recommended!

Wanted to put 2 of these in a car, would this combo be good for a vehicle or is this more of a house enclosure?

Asked by: kaylob
These are designed for home audio but not out of the question for car audio.

Hi, would this sub best a svs PB-1000 or 2000 in output or low end extension in a 12' long by 9' wide 8' tall room? Thanks

Asked by: Zachy
Unfortunately there is no way to say whether this will be a better subwoofer than another model.

I'm looking to order one of these soon but I'll be wanting a grill for it and I'm just curious if the Grill Kit #260-346 would work. I'm concerned about clearance with the ultimax sticking out too far and hitting the grill cloth.

Asked by: raidercrazy88
The only grill we currently have that will fit over this woofer and allow clearance for the excursion would be our 15" bar grill. Any cloth type grill will need to be custom fabricated to a thickness of about 2" in order to clear the woofer surround.

OK...I will go with a sealed enclosure. But. I need to know the net internal volume after Counting driver displacement and bracing of course. JUST NET INTERNAL VOLUME THAT THIS DRIVER NEED IN ORDER TO WORK AT BEST. THANKS.

Asked by: Gioxtream
Net sealed volume for this woofer including driver displacement is 3.175 cubic feet.

Has anyone taken measurements with this combination to see where the low end rolls off and what the response curve looks like?

Asked by: Trip
I am sorry, subwoofer measurements are not available as there is really no good way to remove the room effects from the measurement at these frequencies. Every room and even different locations in the room will measure quite different because you are dealing with wavelengths that are between 14 and 60 feet.
