Dayton Audio 12" Reference Series HO Subwoofer and Cabinet Bundle

Buy this 1.5 cubic foot knock-down cabinet together with the Dayton Audio RSS315HO-4 12" subwoofer (at regular price) and save half off the original price of the cabinet. That's a savings of over $45!

About the Cabinet

This particular cabinet is designed specifically for the Dayton Audio RSS315HO-4 12" Reference Series High Output subwoofer, but works for any subwoofer with an overall diameter of 12-3/8" or less, and a cutout requirement of 11-1/8" or less. For optimum performance, the cabinet is oversized to allow for the use of a plate amplifier with bass boost (such as the Dayton Audio SPA250 or Dayton Audio SPA500 plate amplifiers) to extend the frequency response while staying musical.

During the CNC manufacturing process, rabbets and dadoes are cut into the back panel for precise panel alignment. A unique two-piece brace adds superior rigidity without affecting the subwoofer's performance. Both side panels feature 3/4" rabbeted extensions with recesses to perfectly install the first piece of the two-part, double thick baffle.

The end result is a resonance-free, sealed subwoofer cabinet that is purpose-built to extract the best performance from Dayton Audio's 12" Reference Series High Output subwoofer. All that's left to do is finish it to match your décor or paint it to stand out. When your friends ask about it, you get the pleasure of saying, "I built it myself!"

Specifications: • Panel thickness: 3/4", front baffle is 1-1/2" • Panel material: Medium Density Fiberboard (MDF) • Finished net cabinet volume (subtracting the double thick baffle, bracing, and subwoofer volume): 1.25 cubic feet • External dimensions: 15.5" H x 15.5" W x 16.25" D • Subwoofer recess: 1/2" • Weight: 37 lbs. • Made in the U.S.A.

About the Subwoofer

The Dayton Audio Reference Series subwoofers take the quality and performance of the much acclaimed RS line into the subwoofer realm. As with the rest of the Reference Series, the main focus of these subwoofers is ultra-low-distortion. Second, third, and intermodulation distortion are kept extremely low by utilizing three short-circuit paths within the motor structure.

A durable aramid fiber spider and extensive venting throughout provide quiet and uniform excursion. The black anodized cone, rubber surround, and custom basket give this driver a unique, high-end look. Choose the high output version for automotive applications or for equalized high-power home subwoofers.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Very well made and easy to Assemble.Put 2 of these in my Son's Tahoe and the neighbors are not happy! The speakers are absolute beasts with a 150 oz magnet these had to be placed in very well made cabinet and the Dayton enclosure is perfect.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Nice EnclosureAfter purchasing this kit i thought it was a good value for the money. The enclosure went togethere with ease and all the pieces fit nicely. I was impressed by the quality of the Dayton Audio driver, but was not very impressed by the performance of this unit. I thought maybe it was a power issue so i switch to a proaudio 950watt amp briged mono@4ohm and still just didnt produce much low-end. Iwas trying to step up from my powered JBL 10" sub, but this unit did not perform as well as the JBL.

Dayton Audio 12" Reference Series HO Subwoofer and Cabinet Bundle

I have an Oaudio 500W plate amp that is not being used for anything right now. Would this bundle be a good match for this amp, or would there be another better suited alternative. Thanks, Aug E.

Asked by: aug_e_dog
We have plenty of options that will work with that kind of power. Any of the 10" or 12" kits we offer will be fine, and even the 15" Reference kits will be a good match.

Is there a grill that would work with this kit?

Asked by: Prime23
The only grill we have available that will work over this woofer is the bar grill below.

Which Speaker Mounting Kit is needed, the 8-32 or 10-32 or 1/4"?

Asked by: JameW
I would recommend the #10-32 mounting kit for this woofer.

Do you recommend filling the enclosure with Acousta-Stuf Polyfill Speaker Cabinet Damping Material? If you do, how much and what would the effect be with doing so?

Asked by: vosub
We generally recommend about a half pound per cubic foot of volume. Adding stuffing to a sub will have minimal audible changes but it will lower the enclosure Q slightly.

Would this be better than getting two dayton sub 1200s?  I'm looking for accuracy. What amp should impair with this?

Asked by: Ty___
Two subwoofers are always going to be better than one, regardless of model. Two 1200's will have more output capability and provide a smoother room response due to more placement options. Having said that, two of the reference kits would outperform two of the 1200's quite easily, but there is a vast difference in cost. We recommend the SPA500 for the 12" reference kit.
