XLS Series with Integrated DriveCore™ Technology

The XLS Series of power amplifiers from Crown define the standard for live sound systems with unmatched performance, technology, and affordability. This high-performance line consists of four models each providing enormous power and flexibility thanks to the integrated DriveCore™ Technology, PureBand™ Crossover System and Peakx™ limiters. And weighing in at only 11 lbs. or less, they provide the ultimate in lightweight portability.

Integrated DriveCore™ Technology

Class D amplifiers are notable for extraordinarily high efficiency and being well suited for driving difficult reactive loads such as subwoofers. However, their performance can suffer impaired performance on marginal and unstable AC line supplies.

To overcome this obstacle, Crown engineers developed DriveCore™ Technology – a proprietary hybrid analog-digital integrated circuit (IC) developed with Texas Instruments that drives the "front end" of the Class D output stage. Over 60 years of Crown's design knowledge and experience went into the development of this technology resulting in truly remarkable benefits.

DriveCore™ Technology provides an extremely wide-tolerance with regards to sagging or "dirty" AC line conditions providing consistent performance without affecting audio quality. This means that your performance will not be compromised by fluctuating generator power or overloading by lighting rigs, backline gear, etc.

In addition, DriveCore™ Technology's patented feedback and PWM modulation circuits enable fast recovery on peak transients, accurate reproduction of low-level detail, and precise tracking of low-frequencies at high power levels for maximum subwoofer output.

Advanced Switched-Mode Power Supply

This advanced power supply is highly efficient and optimized for maximum power transfer from the AC line through the Class D output stage to the loudspeakers. A benefit to this is substantial weight reduction when compared to older 60 Hz transformer-based power supplies. All four models in the line weigh 11 pounds or less with no compromise in performance. This makes the XLS Series the benchmark for high performance lightweight portability.

PureBand™ Crossover System

The PureBand™ Crossover System in the XLS Series adds an enormous amount of flexibility and performance to any system. With this system, the crossover frequency is completely variable allowing the choice of any crossover point between 50 Hz and 3 kHz on 1/12 octave centers. The use of 4th order Linkwitz-Riley filters provides steep slopes for a seamless transition between high and low drivers. All of the PureBand™ Crossover System settings can be fully configured quickly and easily from the front panel using the intuitive LCD interface.

Crown XLS 1500 DriveCore Series Power Amplifier
Crown XLS 1500 DriveCore Series Power Amplifier is rated 4.8182 out of 5 by 11.
Rated 3 out of 5 by from Falls shortUsed this amp in a small club environment for a short time. i was using it to drive various types of drivers, keeping loads to 4 ohms for optimal performance. However, it had a penchance to clip a lot, even with moderate levels. the crossover functions seemed to work nicely but getting any decent sound levels was a balancing act. I fell back to a different amp that was only rated 75wpc RMS and was getting much more robust sound with no other configuration changes. Nothing against crown, as i use some of their X series amps and get nothing but clean thunder, but for my purposes, the XLS series seems weak.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from It's a Crown, what can you say!I bought this amp to run a pair of MTX Thunder Pro Monitors that had 2 12's in eachcabinet. This amp ran them with ease. They sound great and have a much bettersound than they did on the older Pyle Pro Amp that I had been using. This amp isa class D amp that weighs less than 12lbs and its amazing its such a strong amp.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great home sub ampI had a Dayton Audio SPA1000 1000W Subwoofer Plate Amplifier driving my sub amp doing great things. I then manage to get my hands on a DC Audio Level 4 18 factory reconed for only 175 bucks. The only problem is the voice coil were only .7 ohm apiece. It wasn't possible to run that with my sub amp. I read the reviews on here on how this is the next great home amp so I bought it. I hook it up to my level bridged wired in series to a 1.5 ohm load in an 12 cubic ft ported boxThe results are astonishing. The bass is amazing. It moved my hdtv and knocks light in light fixtures loose.I have one issue. It has an amazing crossover but the high pass only goes down to 50 hertz. Why not take it down to 20 so it can act as a subsonic filter. Most home theater have a nice sub electronic crossover already.Crown you will take the home audio world by storm if you do this

Rated 5 out of 5 by from amazing qualityfirst off, I've got to say that im not using this as a piece of pa gear, I bought it for my home theater to add to my RX-A3030 and haven't been able to do so yet, but after having this unit for about a month and using it in various ways, there is not one doubt in my mind I made a good purchase. first off this thing is really light weight its crazy, second it uses very little power to preform like a beast. I think the crossover features was a real bonus, and almost every way possible to hook up to it. probably the biggest thing I have used it for so far is when I go to the drive in theater. in the back of my pickup I run the amp off of a 12v dc to ac modified sine wave power inverter. there is no hum or hiss In the speakers even at max volume. the fan is absolutely silent no joke, and it never even gets warm for me. ive been buying cheap amps for 5 years and decided to go big. now im a proud owner of crown. they just won a customer for life. thanks parts express.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Very solid amp, great priceWhen the box arrived, I thought it was empty. Very impressed with how light this is. It does everything I want it to, except I wish it had a DC triggered input to turn it off with my receiver. Overall, very happy and an excellent value.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Fully Loaded and PowerfulI originally purchased the 1000 watt model, and returned it for the 1500 for more power. Currently it is pushing two loudspeakers loaded with a selenium D250-X HD and two HiVi B4N 4 each. The Amp has more power than the speakers can handle which is prefect when I upgrade my mid-ranges. I have the speakers crossed over already, so I have the mode set to Stereo bypass, I have powered my sub-woofers with this amp as well to test out the low pass feature which was flawless and gives you the ability to tune your speakers to the nearest 3 Hz that you desire. It does the job cleanly and without any distortion. The Build is solid, and I cannot figure out how Crown made this amp so lightweight as it is less than half the weight of my other 1500 amp.

If using this to run 2 18inch subs what would max distance from amp can run wire and what gauge. is 20 to 25ft of wire to long for one? I am trying to put 2 subs far apart. thanks

Asked by: evertune
For practical purposes there is no number that will really affect anything here. 25-30 feet per channel will not be a problem. I would recommend 12 gauge for this application.

Hi sir its me athlon64.,,. So if i will buy a step-down transformers for this amp.,that is 220v to 120v.,,.what is the wattage rating i shud get for those stepdown transformers?? 2000watts?is it ok?

Asked by: arvin
The 2000 watt converter will be your best bet but you still may be limited on total output depending on the load presented to the amplifier. Please contact our tech support for more help with this question, tech@parts-express.com or 800-338-0531 x1.

Is the unit able to accept 230V 50Hz? From the backplate, it seems to automatically sense input voltage?  Does the crossover include parametric EQs? How many filters per channel?

Asked by: Subamp
Unfortunately no, we only offer this with 100-120VAC input.

I am considering this as an amplifier for my bass driver with some Bowers 801's. Is this useable up to 350Hz or so in a quality audio system? It's been awhile since I have listened to an amp of this type but previously only like them below 150hz or so.

Asked by: hillcountry
Ultimately this is a subjective question although class D amplifier designs have come a long way and these are very popular for subwoofer amps as well as full range amplifiers. I see no reason this will not work well for the bass drivers in the 801 speakers.
