XLS Series with Integrated DriveCore™ Technology

The XLS Series of power amplifiers from Crown define the standard for live sound systems with unmatched performance, technology, and affordability. This high-performance line consists of four models each providing enormous power and flexibility thanks to the integrated DriveCore™ Technology, PureBand™ Crossover System and Peakx™ limiters. And weighing in at only 11 lbs. or less, they provide the ultimate in lightweight portability.

Integrated DriveCore™ Technology

Class D amplifiers are notable for extraordinarily high efficiency and being well suited for driving difficult reactive loads such as subwoofers. However, their performance can suffer impaired performance on marginal and unstable AC line supplies.

To overcome this obstacle, Crown engineers developed DriveCore™ Technology – a proprietary hybrid analog-digital integrated circuit (IC) developed with Texas Instruments that drives the "front end" of the Class D output stage. Over 60 years of Crown's design knowledge and experience went into the development of this technology resulting in truly remarkable benefits.

DriveCore™ Technology provides an extremely wide-tolerance with regards to sagging or "dirty" AC line conditions providing consistent performance without affecting audio quality. This means that your performance will not be compromised by fluctuating generator power or overloading by lighting rigs, backline gear, etc.

In addition, DriveCore™ Technology's patented feedback and PWM modulation circuits enable fast recovery on peak transients, accurate reproduction of low-level detail, and precise tracking of low-frequencies at high power levels for maximum subwoofer output.

Advanced Switched-Mode Power Supply

This advanced power supply is highly efficient and optimized for maximum power transfer from the AC line through the Class D output stage to the loudspeakers. A benefit to this is substantial weight reduction when compared to older 60 Hz transformer-based power supplies. All four models in the line weigh 11 pounds or less with no compromise in performance. This makes the XLS Series the benchmark for high performance lightweight portability.

PureBand™ Crossover System

The PureBand™ Crossover System in the XLS Series adds an enormous amount of flexibility and performance to any system. With this system, the crossover frequency is completely variable allowing the choice of any crossover point between 50 Hz and 3 kHz on 1/12 octave centers. The use of 4th order Linkwitz-Riley filters provides steep slopes for a seamless transition between high and low drivers. All of the PureBand™ Crossover System settings can be fully configured quickly and easily from the front panel using the intuitive LCD interface.

Crown XLS 1000 DriveCore Series Power Amplifier is rated 4.7895 out of 5 by 19.
Rated 5 out of 5 by from It's almost freeI bought this amp because first it has plenty of power at leastfor my needs and secondly it's ability to drive low impedanceloads down to 2 ohm. I'm using it in my stereo system for thebass, on the left side I have a pair of 18 inch woofers in openbaffle and on the right side a pair of 15 inch woofers also inopen baffle crossed over at 157 and a pair of 3 inch Tang Band full range drivers , I might later add some f-mods tofilter out the bass from the full rangers. This amp is anincredible bargain . If it just had a stereo high pass it would be the perfect amp. Okay I know what your thinking , why18 inchers on one side and 15 inchers on the other side, because that's what I had on hand and on the right side ofmy room I needed more space to walk through. It doesn'tsound unbalanced because of L&R output level feature.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Crown XLS 1000I bought this amp to clean up my keyboard sounds. It works great, the keys sound great. The additional feature of an active crossover will be useful in the future when I add more low end to the system.

Rated 2 out of 5 by from Not the right application.Low output.Amplifier has good build quality. Easy to set up and the X-overwas solid. Before I bought this amp I read a lot of reviewsit looked like it would work for a home theater sub, some people had good luck with it. This amp needs 1.4v minimuminput low level. It really likes 2v or more to perform rightbeing a pro audio piece it make sense. My receiver at high volume and the sub gain all the way up maxed out at 1v. So if you are using this amp the way I did check your output voltage on your receiver.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Very pleased so farI haven't used this amp much, but enough to know it performs great so far. If the reliability is there long term, it's going to be one of the best gear purchases I've made.I played a two night outdoor gig in late June 2013 in upper 90 degree temp. I used the amp to drive two bass cabinets on one channel and one cabinet on the other. I was in "Y" input mode and had the amp in crossover mode with ch 1 lows below 250Hz to a single EV 15" 8 ohm cab and an Ampeg HLF 410 4 ohm cab (2.67 ohm load on ch 1). Channel 2 highs were into a Peavey 4 ohm 410 cab.It was ridiculously loud and clear on both low and high end. I ended up removing the EV 15 from the low side because it was drowning the guitarist in sub-low freq. The cooling fan hardly ran at all. You could feel no heat coming off the amp. I ended up calling Crown (Harman) to ask about the fan. It's working, it just doesn't have to much and it's super quiet. The amp is also nearly dead quiet with just a very light hiss out of the tweeters I was driving.I have tried bridge mono mode into an old Peavey cabinet with two EV 400 watt cast frame 15". It's insanely loud and clear. I don't think the cabinet would take the 1100 watt output, and I don't think I got it close to that level. The amp will be used mostly as a monitor system amp in the future. It hasn't served in that roll yet, but if it performs as well as it did with electric bass, we should be able to hear ourselves....

Rated 5 out of 5 by from The only way to great sounding speakersFinally, an amp with an adjustable crossover in it. or at least the first one I've come across, multiple xover points 12dB linkwitzriley perfect solution to power robbing passive networksI highly recommend this line of amps and could not be happierwith the product. Hows it sound ? as the old adage once saidtry it you'll like it.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great amp!Lots of power and very clear sound. Bought this to replace an aging Sherwood 6040 I've had since the early 80s. Well, this is definately a big improvement. Barely gets warm even at extremely high output levels and really drives the bass. I use this amp to drive multiple speakers in the house and also 4ea 6x9 car speakers in my house boat when we go out on the lake. Easily drives the 6x9s on the boat to maximum output (1.75 ohms in parallel config). Just clean/clear sound output. Speakers can really put out a thump on this amp. Very impressed and satisfied with this amp.

Will this amp handle a load higher than 8 ohms?

The Crown specification PDF states this amp can operate between 2-8 ohms in stereo mode, and 4-8 ohms in mono. Will a 12-16 ohm load present a problem- albeit with lower power output than the stated power output for 8 ohm loads?
Asked by: Mr1Horn
No, that shouldn't be an issue with solid state amps.

so this amp has RCA inputs does it also have outputs to drive another amp for the mains with it's high pass crossover

Asked by: sammy malone
so again to awnswer my own question. because I shouldhave read the manual first. This Crown amplifier doeshave low pass and high pass, the problem is it's an eitheror option, you can use the low pass in stereo or you canuse the high pass in stereo but not at the same time , so you either choose the high pass or the low pass or you have the option of choosing one channel high pass and onechannel low pass. And there are outs to link another ampthis does not change anything as far as the cross over isconcerned. still , you could use the active filter for the lowpass and make a passive crossover for the high pass , sothe crossover on this amp is still cool to have and it's anawsome amp for the money.

This amp says it has a built in X-over but what are the specs?

I want to use it to drive a home sub. Does it have a LP X-over? It has good reviews but I'm surprised buy the low damping factor.>200. I have car amps that are higher. Any insight will help alot. Thanks

would this make a good subwoofer amp ?

i need an upgrade, this fits the bill, just was wondering if this would cut it as a sub amp only, cuz this amp has a lot of flexibility and features i require, with the power needed, i need to know if it can drive low end with authority atleast down to 18hz any opinions would be appreciated
Asked by: hiviman
These amplifiers are very popular for subwoofer duty. The built in DSP allows for added EQ flexibility as well as amp amounts of power for almost any application.

Does this amp contain a subsonic filter?

My speaker/enclosure selection calls for a 30hz high pass filter.
Asked by: jwendel10
The other amp is obviously referring to the built in crossover, and not a subsonic filter. There is no subsonic filter on this amp.
