Bravo Audio Ocean Mini Valve Class A Tube Headphone Amplifier

Looking for a high-quality headphone amp or to dip your toes in the world of tube audio? The Bravo Ocean headphone amplifier will let you do both! Smart, modern aesthetics and a small form-factor mean that this amp will find a home on any desktop. Gorgeous sound quality ensures that you'll be keeping it around for the long haul.

Signal input is through either RCA or 3.5mm stereo jacks. The output jack is 1/4" stereo, but an adapter is included for those using headphones with a 3.5mm plug. A 24 VDC 1A switching power supply is included.

Why Tube Amplification?

Many audio experts believe that technology is just now catching up with the sonic benefits offered by "old-fashioned" tubes. The simplicity of tube circuitry contributes to reduced parts counts and greater sonic clarity. Tubes use far less (if any) negative feedback compared to transistorized amplification circuits. If and when tubes do overload, their subjective sound quality is often preferred to the breakup characteristics of transistors. Although glass vacuum tubes appear fragile, they are robust electrically. They tolerate high peak voltages, and also withstand longer-term overload conditions better than their solid state equivalents.

Specifications: • Power requirement: 24 VDC • Input sensitivity: 100 mV • Input impedance: 100K ohm • Supported headphone impedance: 20 ~ 600 ohm • Gain: 30 dB • Frequency response: 10 Hz – 60 kHz +/- 0.25 dB • Dynamic range: 84.6 dBA (300 ohm), 89.8 dBA (33 ohm) • THD: 0.016% (300 ohm), 0.45% (33 ohm) • Dimensions: 4.52" L x 3.23" W x 3.07" H.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Small clean improves soundI bought this for my headphone addicted son. He tried on his Sennhieser, Bose, Sony and Bowers and Wilkins. He only used digital signals from his phone and PC but he noticed a quality increase right away. He was particularly impressed with the increase in output levels on the phones that were harder tyo drive.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Gr8 Bargain ampI bought this for my son.  He might not see it though...... Changed the tube to a JJ, and I'm having fun.  Enjoyable little amp, does get warm, and you will need to remove the cover to swap out the tube.  BTW, I saw a post where someone said that there were no good tube HP pre amps out there for under $200.  Don't believe it!

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Great Budget Tube BuyI've had this in my analog/tube only system for nearly a year now. Placed between my Stanton turntable and my Musical Fidelity X-PRE tube preamp and Antique Sound Labs Wave-8 monoblocks. The volume knob DOES control preamp out. I discovered this the hard way when I unplugged my headphones and the volume appropriate to the headphones (about 12 o clock) was deafeningly loud through the rest of my system. The literature and previous question/answer led me to believe this was a line out/pass through. It is a preamp out with the volume knob fully controlling the gain to "downstream" components. Which is how I am currently using my unit. I am employingit as a master gain, keeping all the downstream components at a static 12 or 1 o clock and controlling the volume through this unit. When done so I rarely have to turn it up past 9 o clock. Sound? Very nice, tight, crisp and forceful but slightly bright and "glassy". Whether this is from the stock tube or needs further break in only some experimenting will tell. It is not as "warm" sounding as my other tube components but similar to the sound signature or the Dayton digital DTA -100 amp. Both VERY good units for the money. I have some Electro Harmonix tubes on hand to swap out for comparisons but can't seem to be able to remove the stock tube. The "nipple" on top of the tube is very nearly flush with the wire tube guard and there's no wiggle room. I see the previous poster has done some tube rolling has anyone a suggestion for me? Thanks

Does the volume knob control the RCA output signal?

Or is the rear-panel output just a signal 'pass-thru?'
Asked by: yeahdog31
Yes, the knob does control the volume through the RCAs and yes, the signal does pass through the tube stage! I've had mine for a couple of weeks and have been experimenting with different brand tubes, recording the results from the RCA outs into a Zoom H2 digital recorder. Each tube (I've tried four so far: stock tube, vintage Mullard, vintage unknown brand and a new Electro Harmonix- the last two being my favorites so far) had a different sonic signature when recorded through the RCA outs, as well as through headphones. Hope that helps!

Tube Preamp? (RCA Out)

Does the RCA out go through the Tube stage or is it just pass the Input through? I might want to use this as a hi-fi tube preamp in my home stereo (not just as a headphone amp). Thanks!
Asked by: m1k3
The Line Out on this amp is simply a pass through and does not go through the tube stage.

What is the differents between Bravo Audio V1 Mini Valve Deluxe Class A Tube Headphone Amplifier and Bravo Ocean? Is it just the case?

Asked by: Mike229
They are different models/designs. V1 has only RCA inputs, no RCA outputs and they are side mounted versus rear mounted on the Ocean. Volume control and headphone jacks are also in different positions on the PCB. Also, V1 has on/off switch on rear instead of front.
