BOSS 612UA Mechless AM/FM MP3 Digital Media Car Stereo Receiver 50W x 4
BOSS 612UA Mechless AM/FM MP3 Digital Media Car Stereo Receiver 50W x 4 is rated 3.0 out of 5 by 1.
Rated 3 out of 5 by from MP3 player works greatI have a high mileage car (15 years old-290k) and didn't want to spend a lot on a replacement car stereo. I rarely listen to the FM radio (there aren't any stations I like), and never listen to AM. The purpose of this purchase was to get music from a memory module or flash drive to play while I'm in the car. Using it this way I'm very pleased as to how it functions. I did try the FM section and was rather disappointed with the reception. It seems to mute high frequencies when the signal strength drops and was very annoying going from clear to slightly muffled sounding. Sort of like someone is playing with the treble control all the time. I don't know if that was the way the radio is supposed to act, but since I wasn't planning on using the radio much I didn't feel it was bad enough to send back. I didn't try the AM at all. One other annoyance I find is the power filtering isn't as good, so I do hear a slight alternator whine at times. None of the other car stereos I've had did this. The display has some sort of a graphical equalizer on it and you can't turn that off. It makes the front of the radio rather "busy", I see it out of the corner of my eye, but have gotten used to it. Bottom line is I'm happy with the purchase because it fit what I wanted in the car, and it was on sale at the time.. Buy again for myself, probably - recommend to others, not so sure.

What is the current draw? can How long could I run this off of a 7ah battery in a cooler radio?

Asked by: Mofungo
Boss does not specify the current draw or fuse size, but these usually have 10A fuses built in. With moderate volume levels you should be able to get several hours of battery life from a 7 Ah battery.
