BIC Venturi V1020 10" 160 Watt Powered Subwoofer
BIC Venturi V1020 10" 160 Watt Powered Subwoofer is rated 4.7059 out of 5 by 17.
Rated 4 out of 5 by from Overall good, feet not good for hardwoodSo far the sub seems good. This review is mostly on packaging and the feet...Packaging: was very good. the box had considerable damage, but amazingly the sub inside didn't have any marks on it. Foam blocks in each corner saved it.The screw-in feet for the cabinet are rigid plastic cones that are about 2" long. They have no compliant pad or rubber bumper at all, so they seem like they woudl be good only for deep pile carpeting. Funny no one else mentioned this? Anyway for any solid floor (hardwood, tile, linoleum etc) you're going to need to give it some help, otherwise I suspect it would rattle and vibrate around, or even be a bit tippy if the floor isn't perfectly flat.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great SubwooferI bought this subwoofer for a large room ( 616 square foot ) and it didn't disappoint me. The sound is great , without being overblown or distorted. I didn't expect it to sound this good in such a big space. BIC makes excellent subwoofers.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Greatly exceeded my expectations.I have been in high-end audio a long time and have high-end subwoofers in my main system - I'd like to think I know what good bass sounds like. And so I didn't expect much from this budget sub. I couldn't even find real specs - its rated down to 26hz but they don't say whether that's the F3, F10, or what. But it seemed to have a good amp and the 10-incher surely would be a step up from the little 8" AR sub I had down in the rec room. So when the price hit $156 with free shipping, I decided to take a chance.I am blown away at the performance of this sub for the money. I was specifically looking for a sub that was not a "one-note wonder". I cross it over low (currently at 100) and it is very solid, deep bass that is amazingly well articulated. Or as we love to call it - very musical. As with any sub, I experimented with different placement and volumes and crossover points. The resulting system sounds fantastic.I think this sub would suffice for most home theater setups in a medium-size room, and it would handle all but the most demanding LFE tracks. As for music, it's wonderful (again, for the money) and I couldn't find any musical content that it didn't handle.Again, not to put this in the same category of subs costing hundreds of dollars more, but I am exceedingly happy with this sub and will probably buy several more. One for my girlfriend's house (so I can have good sound when I'm there, too). And one as a second sub downstairs. My prediction is that two of these $156 subs will outperform many single subwoofers in the $500-600 category and will have smoother response. And naturally Parts Express handled the transaction perfectly. It was shipped the same evening and I got it the next day. Quickly becoming my favorite online vendor.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from BIC V1020 Powered SubwooferThis is my second 10" BIC powered subwoofer. For undetermined reasons both the amp and the speaker went TU after approx. 10 years of service. The predecessor had a Dayton amp and the BASH amp in the new model does have more features and the performance is every bit as good.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Hard to beat for the money you're spendingthis speaker is nice and loud. the construction of the speaker box and components themselves is excellent. The back panel has all the connections and adjustments you would ever need. I currently have the subwoofer in my bedroom and it sounds crisp and clear.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Nice subwoofer for the moneyI am a exhibit repair technician at a children's science museum in Syracuse NY, as well as an audiophile. I have a 50' tall model of an Atlas V rocket which plays a soundtrack of a launch sequence when a button is pushed. I needed a replacement subwoofer that will shake the room, but of course have no $$ to spend. This subwoofer, although not overly loud, does the job nicely. Hooked it to my sound system before I installed it in the rocket and it delivers nice tight bass. I'm thinking seriously about buying one for my home.

Is there a high-pass filter on the output?

I can't seem to get an accurate answer to this question. Do the output jacks have any high-pass filtering? In other words, if you set the sub at 100Hz for example, when you connect the satellites to this sub's output jacks, will only frequencies above 100Hz be passed to the satellites?Or, are the output jacks simply jumpered to the input jacks, thereby passing the full signal to the satellite speakers? If anyone here actually owns this sub, this should be easily to determine by simply checking for continuity with an ohmmeter between the input jacks and satellite output jacks.I know that most cheap subs, such as the Dayton Audio and other similar ones, actually tell you in the manual that the input and output jacks are jumped together and those subs have no high pass filtering.FWIW -- I asked this question to a BIC email support tech, and he said this sub ~does~ have high-pass filtering, but I find that answer very very unlikely, which is why I am hoping someone else can confirm or dispute that answer.
Asked by: bosschops
There is no way for us to test this without unboxing a brand new unit and having to re-sell it as used. If the manufacture states there is a high pass on the output there likely is. This is common with speaker level inputs and outputs on subwoofers like this.

Low pass range and slope

This is not given in the details. I'd like to know the range of low pass frequencies, and the low pass filter slope.
Asked by: GeraldW
A subwoofer doesn't have terms the same as a crossover. It has a Frequency response of 26-180 Hz at rated output.

Asked by: Boxmaster
Yes, this is a down firing ported subwoofer configuration. do you have any other questions?
