Product Details

Beston RT001A Ribbon Tweeter

A ribbon tweeter's radiating surface approaches the theoretical ideal of a zero-mass audio source. The articulation, attack, and sonic transparency are quite impressive, and the diaphragm's monolithic shape and orientation provide a broad horizontal and tightly controlled dispersion characteristic, which is ideal for many listening environments. Beston's carefully sculpted waveguide faceplate further improves the tweeter's linear emission of smooth, extended high frequencies. The RT001A is perfect for compact 2-way and 3- or 4-way designs, as well as for use in multiples when incorporated into line arrays. A third order (18 dB/octave) or higher crossover is recommended to achieve maximum power handling. Minimum recommended crossover frequency: 3,500 Hz.

Beston RT001A Ribbon Tweeter
Beston RT001A Ribbon Tweeter is rated 4.5 out of 5 by 4.
Rated 5 out of 5 by from Excellent clarity and dispersionI have this crossed at 3500Hz with an in-line circuit breaker and a 6-1/2" bass driver that's a perfect match for this. I don't foresee any problem with this when paired with your average 50-100 watt stereo receiver. The treble has just a bit of sizzle, which I actually prefer. But not so much so that they become hard to listen to. They also have a very wide dispersion, with no noticable change till about 70-80 degrees off axis, which means you hear what you hear the same from almost anywhere in a room. Most tweeters, as we know, are very directional, so a dispersion of 140-160 degrees eliminates the problem of a sweet spot on axis or dull sound off axis. This tweeter provides outstanding clarity with low distortion and very good imaging. I prefer this head and shoulders above the Dayton Audio PT2C-8 and it is half the price.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Outstanding ribbon tweeter, particularly for the price...Finally tried a pair of these as supplementary supertweeters for B652s. Crossed over 6 dB per octave (8 uFd cap into L-pad, crossover at about 4KHz). Output matches with L-pads at 3:00. Lots of 'air', no harshness or distortion. In terms of relatively inexpensive ribbon supertweeters, I still prefer the HiVi's slightly, but the Beston RT1 and RT2 are less expensive, and just a smidgen less transparent. I suspect less critical listeners would notice little difference. Any of these, mounted on simple flat tweeter stands, on top of B652's, provide sound quality comparable to the best commercial home speakers, particularly when driven with Tripath or TI based class D amplification, which really brings out the best in this combination. (Jury still out on the ST Micro chips, but recent designs also sound very good.) Add an appropriate sized (for room size) powered subwoofer, and you have a system for about $200 that is high audiophile quality, comparable to my reference systems (ribbon tweeter equipped Dahlquist DQ-10s with subwoofer and crossover, and Sequerra Pyramids with ribbon tweeters) and just a tad less accurate than full range ribbons, full range electrostatics, and other exotics, which cost 40-60 times as much. This represents a near revolution in low cost audio.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Minimal hassle to mount, but not much below 4000Very nice clean little ribbon. At 4000 it drops like a rock. If you are padding it down, with a 4th order or higher slope you might get 3500 with some decent power handling. Very sweet and easy to work with & surface mount. I have one a prototype crossed at 4000 to a 5" mid. Very nice. Much smaller than any of the HiVi planars, easier to mount than the Neo3. If you can reach 4000 with your mid, it's well worth the money.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Clear soundThe selling point for me is the sound. I am by no means a professional in the speaker industry, my ears are good enough judges for me. I have used dome and cone tweeters and they do not compare to this ribbon tweeter. The highs are exceptionally clear. I used this driver in a 3-way center speaker. It is now my best speaker in my 5.1 set and am trying to to rebuild the rest of my speakers just to incorporate more of these.

I was wondering how good those will be as supertweeters, in the range above 20KHz, I'm looking to use them on top of two Axiom m80's aluminum domes...???
Asked by: sovkiller
The Axiom m80 has several versions however they all begin a curve dip beginning around 2.5khz. and continuing to about 6khz. They then are flatter from 8khz. out to 25khz.This ribbon would level this dip out and carry highend well beyond the speakers upper limit. There is a probability that starting at 7.5khz. and coontinuing through 25khz there could be too much upper mid-range. . After that, it would be nothing mostly but the ribbon tweeter. If I was adding this tweeter to SM existing speaker I would have a decent multiband equilizer to make any needed adjustments. Iwould also consider adding 2 per cabinet as a mini array. I am sure these would add favorable sound charateristics to nearly any speaker system.Typically I don't design or build 4 way speakers but with some design considerations I could see this as a major upgrade. Simply adding as a wire in, although an improvement, this would not be quite as significant.
