Behringer UCA202 2-In/2-Out USB Audio Interface S/PDIF Out

With this ultra-compact, bus-powered interface, a Windows® and Mac® computer can be linked with any audio gear. There is no setup or special driver needed—simply plug the interface into a free USB port on the computer and get into the groove. The UCA202 provides two analog inputs and outputs, as well as an additional S/PDIF optical output for direct digital conversion. This Behringer USB DAC Audio interface solves the common problem with Windows Vista machines that preclude simultaneous analog and digital output. Set your Vista machine for USB audio and this interface will supply simultaneous analog and digital optical S/PDIF. Use a optical to coaxial digital adapter if coaxial digital is required for long digital runs between your computer and your audio system. Behringer's U-CONTROL download area offers a huge software package for recording and editing applications. The UCA202 interface is a complete audio solution that provides connectivity between the analog and digital domain.

Works perfectly for the JT65 and PSK31 modes when connecting the radio to a laptop. Also works fine when connecting a Radio Shack sound level meter to the laptop for speaker measurements.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Good USB DACThe UCA202 is really just a stripped down version of the Behringer USB mixer with an added optical interface. The same codec (PCM2902) is used in both devices. I use this as a DAC with a Raspberry Pi so that I can listen to internet radio stations and FLAC encoded files on my stereo system. My stereo system is McIntosh and this DAC sounds very very good. It easily beats FM broadcast quality.I ran tests on it using a RTA. Frequency response was flat with better than +- .1 db 20hz-20kc, distortion was in the .01 - .007 % range and no measurable intermod distortion. Noise is at least 90db down.A lot of bang for the buck. Looking for a basic DAC that is well built and a solid performer? This is it. Highly recommended

Unlike the soundcard output that had an intolerable hum when connected to the stereo, the UCA202 provided good clean sound. Replacing the 22uF coupling caps with higher voltage rated 100uF parts and bypassing them with small value film caps made a worthwhile improvement to the quality of sound from the analog outputs. I have not used the analog input or headphone capabilities yet.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Good value, does what it shouldI bought this to use my laptop to DJ a dance. It worked great, sound quality much better than the headphone jack. Easy to install (shows up as a USB speaker). Not a whole lot of fancy software to play with...very basic, but for the $30 I paid right in line with other cheap USB solutions.

Is the S/PDIF out limited to 48 kHz?

or is it independed of the dac? cause if this thing acts as a USB to S/PDIF converter without limiting the sample rate, I'll try it out at that price... use it as a bridge between my Mac and my DAC.Cheers!Tom

Preout Voltage?

I am wondering what the voltage is on the rca outputs of this device.
According to the owners manual, the output is specified as 2dbv, which is equivalent to 1.258925412v. Basically the RMS voltage is about 1.3v The peak to peak voltage is 3.56v Most consumer audio line level is about 2-2.2v RMS, so this devise will seem a little lower in volume. You may have to crank the volume up to compensate, but is may sound more noisy as the THD specification is rated at -10dbv, which is only 1/3v (.3)
