Product Details

Behringer DCX2496 Ultradrive Pro Digital 24-Bit/96 kHz Loudspeaker Management System & Crossover

The Ultradrive Pro DCX2496 is an indispensable tool for the precise set-up of multiple loudspeaker systems or arrays. Installation contractors, live-sound engineers, cinemas/discotheques/concert hall operators will quickly learn to love this model’s rich features. Signals can be split in various ways to assure precise sound by using the optimal frequency range of each loudspeaker.

The Ultradrive Pro DCX2496 features 3 analog inputs (one suitable as a digital stereo AES/EBU input) and 6 analog outputs. You get maximum flexibility in just one rack space. Superb high-end AKM® 24-bit/96 kHz A/D and D/A converters give you ultimate signal integrity and an extreme dynamic range of 113 dB. Easy connection of external digital signals with sampling rates from 32 to 96 kHz is a breeze with the integrated sample rate converter.

There are precise dynamic EQs for level-dependent equalization and extremely musical parametric EQs, selectable for all inputs and outputs, and “Zero“-attack limiters on all output channels guarantee optimal signal and loudspeaker protection. You also get four different mono and stereo output operating modes, all with individual crossover filter types (Butterworth, Bessel and Linkwitz-Riley) with selectable roll-off characteristics from 6 to 48 dB/octave. The delays for all inputs and outputs are adjustable. This allows you to manually or automatically correct for room temperature, phase and arrival time differences. An additional sum signal is easily derived from the A/B/C inputs.

The future-proof Ultradrive Pro software enables single or multi remote control via PC through RS-232 and RS-485 interfaces. And the link option via RS-485 network interface enables cascading of several Ultradrive Pros. A Windows®-based editing software is available for download free of charge. No matter what the future brings, its open architecture assures easy software updates. A PCMCIA slot allows you to store all your settings and recall them anytime you change the location—virtually taking your Ultradrive Pro with you. The servo-balanced, gold-plated XLR connectors for all inputs and outputs guarantee excellent connectivity for the years to come.

Behringer DCX2496 Ultradrive Pro Digital 24-Bit/96 kHz Loudspeaker Management System & Crossover
Behringer DCX2496 Ultradrive Pro Digital 24-Bit/96 kHz Loudspeaker Management System & Crossover is rated 4.4444 out of 5 by 18.
Rated 4 out of 5 by from XOverI love it. It took the place of my other Xover, equalizer, compressor?limiter, and digital reverb processor. When music is not playing, there is no hum or loud chirping noise coming from the speakers. It does not emit any annoying sounds. Excellent headroom.Very affordable. It takes time to tweak the settings, but once you get the hang of it, you can do it on the fly.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Indispensable for multi-amped systemsI upgraded from a decent analog 3-way stereo crossover to this. I can't overstate how much it has improved the overall sound quality of my system by giving me complete control over pretty much every parameter. You can spend a lot of time calculating crossover points, slopes, delay, phase and polarity, but the only way to truly know what sounds best is to be able to make adjustments on the fly. This provides that. The auto delay seems pretty accurate. Each test can turn up a bit different, but the numbers it usually came up with were almost exactly the physical difference between driver distances. I can't detect any noise produced by this unit either. The user interface takes some getting used to but is actually seems fairly intuitive now that I've spent some time with it. Very impressive piece of gear!

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Nice machine, lots of features, but mediocre output stageThis little box is kind of an enigma, on one hand it will allow you to improve the sound of your system with it's powerful features. On the other hand it will suck the life out of your system with it's poor active output stage. If all you want to do with this is figure out the X-O frequencies for your drivers then implement a passive X-O, this is a great tool.If you're thinking of going the active X-O route in your high-end home stereo, think twice! This machine has mediocre sound quality. Thin and flat with etched highs and poofy bass is what comes out.Fortunately, there is a solution, replacing or bypassing the active output stage. But, that is for more advanced/daring DIY'ers, and of course your warranty is null and void at that point! It's not without it's compromises but if you're willing to put in the effort to take the sound quality up a notch it's a nice cheap active X-O that will also solve for time delay.I use the DCX2496 after a DEQ2496. The DEQ does room correction, so that in conjunction with the DCX2496 and it's time delay function equates to a setup that does everything a 2-5k DEQX does.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from The Perfect SolutionFor an old hobbyist like me, this is the answer to designing and building speakers. If you need to test a new speaker design to find the best crossover point, slope, or type, then this is the answer. The equalization is more than enough to achieve a flat response in all but the worst rooms. The feature list is long and distinguished- time and phase correction, adjustable delay, parametric eq, dynamic eq, limiter for all outputs, 2 or 3 way stereo crossover, etc. This one component has replaced my dbx crossover and equalizer and took my audio system to the next level. This is honestly the best single part or component I've ever purchased for my system and it has refueled my passion for the audio hobby! Thanks to PE again for offering products such as this at reasonable prices so that someone like me on a tight budget can achieve audio bliss that would normally cost thousands more.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from High end audio crosover - manages hybrid Electrostatic-Sub comboThis product has solved a very difficult problem for me. I have Quad ESLs combined with a powered sub for each front channel - plus a mono sub for 12Hz-60Hz. This product was able to calculate and then apply correct phase, polarity and delays to each of the 5 signals - making the wave fronts arrive properly at the seating position. The ESLs are "fast" and needed a delay = to moving them 15 feet behind the subs. The result is great natural bass that blends very well. The AD-DA circuitry is good enough that I cannot hear degradation. Midrange is at least as clean as it was with previous Xover (Bryston).

I am interested in purchasing the Behringer UltraPro DCX2496, but before I commit, I would like to preview the UltraPro editing software for a PC. It states that I can download it for free at Behringer.com, but I can't seem to find it anywhere.

Asked by: wanderboy
I would recommend you contact Behringer directly for a demo of the software.

How does one use the Mike in input C for auto align in a 3 in 2 out set-up?

How does one use the Mike in input C for auto align in a 3 in 2 out set-up? I am looking at purchasing 3 of these units for my home theatre and while looking at the manual I did not see an answer for this in the manual. Input C will be used so call my an idiot but how do you auto align and use it at the same time.My set-up will be 3 way main L+R, 2 way C, 2 way R+L surround, 2 way R+L rear surround plus LFE of my main Anthem. In my 2 ways I am using 4 6.5' Peerless SDS woofers a Peavey ribbon so I think there will be timing issues without correction. These units will be Daisy chained and the the first unit will have input C open, In this configuration will auto align work for the remaining outputs?Any help will be appreciated.

Sounds like a cool system design. I am pretty sure I understand your set up ....and assuming I am correct - you actually don't have the problem that you are concerned about. I own one of these units - so this answer is based on actually using it. When any unit in your system performs the auto-align function, it uses an INTERNALLY generated test signal and only performs the time alignment function on its own (up to 6) output channels. Thus, inputs A, B, and C are not actually used during auto-align. The auto-align works for each "channel" - which is typically a 2 way or 3 way output - one LEFT & one RIGHT.....and I guess you could use outputs 3 & 6 for a 2 way CENTER xover if they were "left over" after you used 1,2,4,5 for other speakers. I am not sure why you would want to actually daisy chain these units for a CHANNEL....you have to keep the 7.1 channels separate re inputting to your 3 chassis A,B and C inputs. Once the auto align is done, you remove the mic and plug in your inputs as needed to accept your 7.1 channes. If this answer it not useful - ask again and I will try again.
