B&C's 8MDN51 8" woofer is an efficient and lightweight cast frame neodymium professional driver. Its ventilated voice coil gap ensures long term power handling and reduced power compression. Although the 8MDN51 will provide great results when loaded into direct radiating designs, it is also ideally suited for horn-loaded speaker systems.

concern on peaks at 3KHz and 4KHz

I have been considering this driver for a while. However, the peaks showing at 3KHz and 4KHz concern me, especially since the rise in response begins immediately after 2KHz (which is where I would like to crossover to a tweeter).I may be over analyzing to the extent of mythology, but I believe a passive circuit that provides a smooth response through to 4KHz (by attenuating the peaks and rise), would serve to provide a more pleasant response (in addition to the crossover I plan to use [2.5KHz, 12dB slope]).I welcome any assistance.

There are resonant peaks in every speaker--that does not make them any less annoying though. There are several factors that add to the peak though--cabinet size/shape--dampening material [or none]. What you describe is a passive "notch filter". Check with PE's crossover component or building loudspeakers section for exact values. I would add that passive notch filters are not as good as an inexpensive parametric active EQ. With these, you can adjust the width and depth of your frequency response. These things are all part of the discovery process in audio. [suggestions below].
