Band-It Black Melamine 24" x 96" Iron-On
Band-It Black Melamine 24" x 96" Iron-On is rated 3.4286 out of 5 by 7.
Rated 3 out of 5 by from Difficult to get rightI've installed iron-on and glue on Band-it real wood veneer and both work so much easier than this stuff. The look of the product is nice enough. Trim with a razor blade knife instead of the Band-it tool. Or use a router trim bit. I had some splitting using the router trim bit on one of four speaker holes. Trim to about 1/16th inch but do the final trimming with sand paper at 45 degrees. You must roll this product. Heating the glue and pressing hard with the iron isn't enough to prevent bubbling later. Working in small areas and having a friend pull it tight wasn't enough to prevent later bubbling. I should have used a roller. The finish if you are able to get it to stick should wear well. But I wish it was a little more of a matte finish with a textured look to it.Would recommend this for smaller surfaces, not the large subwoofer I put it on.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Decent ProductThis is actually a decent product, but only for smaller scale projects. Use formica on the larger ones, otherwise you're asking for bubble-trouble. I find the results were optimal using a router and fine-tooth file (or high grit sandpaper) to trim the edges. My technique worked best when I used a grease-proof artpaper on the iron (set to cotton) followed immediately with a J-roller to smooth out the air working from the center outward. Use the iron patiently and slowly. Take your time is all that I can say.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Did a good job for me.I used this material to cover a shelf with its own legs for a stand for an LCD TV over an audio amp in an entertainment center. It was made to exactly match a unit just like it on which it was stacked and which came with the furniture. It was made from birch plywood and particle board. The adhesive was melted with an ordinary iron and then immediately rolled with a laminate roller. I used an Exacto knife (with lots of blades) to trim. My Band-It trimmer tool can never do the final trim of laminates and veneers anyway. For large sections, I recommend heating a small area at a time (about the 2X the size of the iron) with immediately rolling. The piece I made looks like it came with the furniture. Holding up well so far. Recommended.

Rated 2 out of 5 by from Horrible productI did not have much success with this product. I was using this on a subwoofer cabinet I built out of MDF. The glue that is used with this product did not stick well and I would have to go back and re-iron many spots. After a few days I saw the material bubble off and decided to remove it altogether.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Great product! Easy to use. This product is great for those DIY home projects that you want to add a professional look to without too much hassle. It's very easy to use. My only beef is that it doesn't come in larger/custom sizes.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Takes Extra Care To Get Very Good ResultsI've used this stuff on a couple sets of cabinets so far and here are a few tricks I learned the hard way. First, iron small, 6" x 6", sections at a time and roller until the glue is dry otherwise the melamine can lift or bubble up. Second, cut the corners with scissors before using the razor knife, otherwise they can break off and leave a blemish in the finish. Third, when razoring the deges don't try to cut too close, but sand them down instead using a fine grain sanding block at a 30 to 45 degree angle, sanding lengthwise along the edge. Its best not to rush, just take your time and you can get very good results.

Band-It Black Melamine 24" x 96" Iron-On

could you use a heat gun and roller to apply?

Asked by: spkrs
Unfortunately we cannot recommend this as a heat gun will likely not get it hot enough.
