Aurum Cantus G1 Ribbon Tweeter
Aurum Cantus G1 Ribbon Tweeter is rated 5.0 out of 5 by 4.
Rated 5 out of 5 by from Louder is betterI Love Loud Concert Level Sound. This ribbon can accomplish the task. I have replaced the voice coil on my seas millenium tweeter a sinful amount of times at 45 bucks a pop. This tweeter costs 14 bucks to repair and is 10db more efficient than the seas. Very sweet sounding in the human voice or string department. Expensive but a robust sweet sounding unit.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Pushed and abused.Gradually tore the G1 ribbons to shreds with a Marantz SR7500. At full volume and a generic radio shack crossover. The remedy? Lindt cocoa dark brand chocolate foil wrapper and a gear to crease the strips, at forty some dollars I may fix the crossover problem first. On the negative side I did find one of the end plate screws sheared off.On the positive side,an amazing sound even with the makeshift foil,a literally indestructible speaker.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Fast and articulateI have these tweeter ribbons mated in an mtm using two Focal Audiom 6wm midranges. Crossing at 1600 w/24db crossover makes this combo very fast and clean - you are there sound. Very efficient and not shy of very high SPLs.

how often do the ribbons may have to be replaced on the g1 tweeter

The ribbons should not need to be replaced unless they are physically damaged.

I plan to pair this ribbon with the dynavox 6.5 speaker. Can you recommend a crossover for this pair in the .75 curved cabinet?

I have a pair of these G1's, how long do you think it takes to break in the G1 tweeter ? (Right now, they are a little grainy, but still wonderful, brand new.)

Asked by: bladesmith
A ribbon will not have the same break-in characteristics as a dome since there is no real suspension that can be loosened up. Any break-in that will happen will probably take 20-40 hours of normal playback.

Would this ribbon mate well with 2 Aurum Cantus AC165/50C2C, or would 2 be a little over powering for the ribbon?

Asked by: BifPib
A pair of the woofers in parallel will be roughly 96 dB, the ribbon is up at 102 dB. The ribbon will still need to be attenuated to match the output levels of the woofers.

What's a good woofer to go along with the g1?

I was thinking of the Eminence Delta-10A 10" (2 of them in a WTW format) with the Eminence PXB2:3K5 2-Way Speaker Crossover Board 3,500 Hz (assembled). Or if you have better suggestion?
Asked by: limechile22
This ribbon tweeter deserves a support system that provides clear responsive sound. I think you are on the right track. Several great combinations are available thru PE. If I could afford to build the system, I would communicate with tech supports best speaker builder, the get to preview a lot of speakers.

Face-up mounting?

Any problem with this tweeter be mounted horizontally - i.e. facing up, rather than having the ribbon "hanging" vertically?
Asked by: stsk
The G1 ribbon tweeter is designed to provide amazing dispersion of sound to be optimum when installed face forward in a vertical plane. Electronically it would work in any orientation but the dispersion would be decreased accordingly.I do not own this speaker, but a musician friend built a pair of reference monitors using these and they are very impressive in all ways. The highs are very accurate. In his studio dieting production I have actually heard page turning of lyrics and sheet music.I would consider any benefits of this mounting and attempt to modify the design to allow the G1 to be oriented as designed. Sometimes the manufacturer knows best.
