Aurum Cantus AC-180F1 7" Woofer
Aurum Cantus AC-180F1 7" Woofer is rated 4.5 out of 5 by 4.
Rated 4 out of 5 by from good mid bass, not really a wide band speakeri have been using these with a pair of w3319 tang bands, 1744 tb twtr, and a t3 sub. crossed at 100, 360, and 4000hz. all active crossovers with adcom and crown amps. crossed at 720 i lose definition in kick drums and bass. those little tbs are pretty hard to beat down to @250hz, this does fill the gap between the w3s and the sub very well though.this wont play really deep(does ok for a 7") and does ok up to @ 1500 hz but not as good as a real mid range but its strong point is between 90 and 500 hz.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Great Mid Bass DriverSo, although this isn't the least expensive woofer option, the detail/tightness/accuracy are absolutely outstanding. This unit is currently in a 3-way configuration with the Dayton 700/5.6k crossover, the Dayton PT2C-8 planar transducer, and an AC-130F1 for midrange duties. The set, overall produces an absolutely amazing level of clarity and realism. I do think that the current size of the enclosure is a bit too small for the driver to breathe in (roughly 0.6 cu.ft.) - would probably do best in closer to 1.0 cu.ft. Anyway, the low bass and midbass output is absolutely outstanding. Great driver - highly recommended!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from AC-180F & BG planar Tranducer a perfect matchI mated the BG RD50 Planar Tranducer with 2 AC-180F woofer per speaker and found them to be a great match. The 180F are an excellent compliment to the RD 50's. Effeciency numbers are very similar and the sound was vert etailed. System impedance is four ohms (2 180F per speaker) and powered by a Brston 4BSST amp. They are not bass drivers but I have the system backed up with a pair GR Research Servo Subs. Collectively the system sounds awsome. I would highly recomend the 180F as a worthy driver for a 3, or even a 3 way system

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Aurum Cantus AC180F1 evaluationI built the speaker into a box with the VAS as specified in the specs. It played exactly like described in the specs, even the frequency chart matched. The sound is very open and detailed, exactly what I needed. The SPL is very high but this matches my ScanSpeak tweeter. This is not a speaker for sub base, but my Celestion Sub-woofer takes care of that.Overall, one of the best I heard in 27 years experience with audio!

Aurum Cantus AC-180F1 7" Woofer

Is the AC-180F1 7" woofer capable of producing very good bass/mids crossed at 3.5K or 4.5K, with a Dayton PT2C-8 planar tweeter in a two-way system?

If this is a workable arrangement, I would appreciate any input on enclosure size and type. Goal is to get full, round, articulate (not wall-shaking) bass, and superb mids to compliment the planar tweeter. To be used without a sub for now, but still allow for one later. The AC-130MKII 5-1/4" woofer (used as a mid) is available if the 7 incher doesn't adequately cover the bass/mid spectrum, and a three-way system is determined to be preferable. Thanks

The Aurum Cantus AC180F1 is a well designed accurate speaker as is the DA Planar. Since the planar comes in at 2khz., I would crossover at 4.5khz., with a 6db slope. You can enhance low end with a properly designed cabinet. If you opt for sealed box lows will be transiant and punchy. A small port will be a little less punch but deeper. It should be a good speaker.
