Aura AST-2B-4 Pro Bass Shaker Tactile Transducer

The Aura AST-2B-4 Pro Bass Shaker—also known as a butt shaker, or tactile transducer—works on the principle that low bass is mostly felt and not heard. Experience earth-shaking bass from all of your media: music, computer, movies, or video games. The Aura Pro Bass Shaker was designed originally for automotive applications to produce big car subwoofer bass without taking up valuable space in the vehicle's trunk. The Aura Pro Bass Shaker is ideal for convertibles and sports cars, where installing a large car stereo subwoofer is not practical. Can also be used in the home to make your own movie or video game chair.

The Aura Bass Shaker simply mounts to the floorboard under the seat or to the bottom of a chair to send vibrations through the structure, allowing you to feel awesome bass. The Pro version bass shaker handles 50 watts of power and produces more driving force than a standard shaker. Connects to an amplifier like an ordinary speaker. Use an array of Bass Shakers for larger surface areas like couches or love seats by utilizing a conventional series-parallel wiring configuration. Aura part number AST-2B-4. Sold and boxed individually and also available packed 16 units per case.

Bass Shakers bring coin-operated video arcade games to life by transforming a game's audio output into body-pulsing vibrations. With Bass Shakers installed into arcade seats or floor platforms, players can feel everything froma fighter's punch to the roaring engine of a formula one race car.

In movie theaters, the action jumps off the screen, the soundtrack comes to life and the entire experience is intensified. Bass Shakers hook up like a speaker and easily mount directly to a standard theater seat.

Installed in seats, tables, booths, floors of showrooms and stage theaters, Bass Shakers provide audiences with a more complete entertainment experience. Las Vegas stage extravaganzas, hit Broadway musicals, and rockin' concerts virtually jump off the stage into the audience. Bass Shakers are ideal for bringing music, on-stage special effects and laser shows to life.

Bass Shakers turn up the revenue potential of any entertainment experience. And thanks to low purchase, installation and maintenance costs, the Bass Shaker is a virtual winner in the race to provide affordable upgrades and enhancements to existing facilities.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Must have home theater accessoryI installed 4 of these coupled with a SPA250 amp from PE and after a small break-in period, the output and impact is incredible! I recommend using with a standard sub and tuning the shaker amp crossover to ~50hz or lower to let your sub do what it's supposed to and let the shakers ignore mid-upper bass and focus it's impact on the lower registers to emphasize gunshots, explosions, etc. When my wife saw the couch flipped over and the cover pulled back she rolled her eyes but after a couple weeks with them installed, she's excited to watch movies that "rumble the couch". Mission accomplished, thanks Parts Express!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Nice compliment to HT subwooferI added four of the aura bass shakers to my couch and love seat in my home theater room. The added sensation is a nice compliment to my existing sub. Since my room is in my basement and my floor is tile I was looking for added oomph and these tactile transducers deliver. I love the look on people's faces when they sit down for the first time and that bass hits. My sub rattles the walls but due to the tile I never felt it like I can now. I recommend these units.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great addition to your Home Theater experience!I purchased 2 of these shakers about 4 years ago and they've been a great and reliable addition to my Home Theater. I recently upgraded my seating to a six piece sectional and ordered 4 more of these units to my system. I love the responses I get from friends who come over to watch a movie and are shocked to feel every impact of every gun shot or explosion and can't believe the feeling! Highly recommended!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Work amazingly wellThe great reviews convinced me to buy one of these, otherwise I never would. They seem like a gimmick you see advertised on TV. These are actually kind of amazing. You still need a regular woofer, but these definitely add to the bass experience.Super easy to install. As the many notes say, you do need a separate amp to drive them.

Connecting to my system?

I want to add a couple of these to my home theatre setup. I currently have a Pioneer 5.1 reciever that powers my sub. Mostly, I am just lost as to how to wire these in to my existing system.I'm looking at buying a Dayton Audio APA150 to power the 2 Aura Bass Shakers but not sure how to wire them in. Should I run the wires off of my Subwoofer "Line Out" or should I somehow run them directly off of my receiver? Thanks!
Asked by: ripthesystem
Yes, you would be best to run your "subwoofer line out" from the receiver to the amplifier and then run speaker cable from the amp to the bass shakers. If you are also running another subwoofer off that channel already, you can buy an RCA splitter to add the needed connections.

What's an acceptable gauge of wiring?

Most likely going to purchase a pair of these with a Dayton 150W amp. My sofa console is in the middle of a carpeted room. Need to fish the speaker wires under the carpet, so I would prefer to keep the wiring as small as possible to prevent a bump in the carpet. Is 18 gauge speaker wire considered heavy enough to carry the signal from the Dayton amp about 40-50 feet to a pair of these? If not, what's recommended?
Asked by: KBActive
Sure, it will work with 18 ga wire. 100 feet (50 feet out and 50 feet back) of 18 ga copper wire has about 0.6 ohms resistance. If you wire these shakers in series, that is a 8 ohm load, with a total load of 8.6 ohms. So 0.6 / 8.6 = 0.069 or about 7% of the amp power will be used to heat the wire. That does not seem too bad to me, but of course you have to decide for yourself. You could get some of the flat wire that PE sells to run under the carpet, or run two 18 ga wires which would half the resistance.

Does it matter if you mount these with padded side towards the sky and label side towards the ground?

Asked by: Whichendup
The orientation of the bass shaker should not matter, as long as the padded side is the one that faces the mounting surface.

Can I hook up 6 of these in series without causing problems? I have 6 theater seats and would like each of them to have one. What is the proper wiring

Asked by: Indy
The best way to do that would be to wire them so you have two sets of three in series (4ohms+4ohms+4ohms) or (12 ohms) then wire the two sets in parallel (12ohm)/2 this will give you 6 ohms total which most any amp will handle fine.

What passive crossover to buy to work with 2 pf these?

HiI purchased two of these and wired them together off one channel on my old amplifier. Works great for the best few months but would really like to cut out the shakers from certain sounds , like deep voices, door slams etc what is the cheapest passive crossover i should buy? And do i just wire it between the amp and speakers?
Asked by: Perfectdark69er
I would recommend something like our part number 266-440 for an application like this.

Do I need a separate amp for these?

Could I hook these up to the subwoofer channel of my receiver or should i purchase a separate amp? any recommendations?
Asked by: Tim 46528
They are passive, which means that just like any other (non-active) speakers you would need amplify them. I am running mine with a 250W amplifier, but you don't need that much power - I would recommend a Dayton 100W amp from PE and run them for about 10 hours before you start to judge them as they do require a break in period before they really start to perform. I hope this helps.
