Rated 5 out of 5 by from Superb preformer, and a stunningly good valueI don't think there's a better cartridge in its price range, and far above it! I have compared it to 2 of its competitors the Ortofon 2M Red, and the Shure M97XE, and the AT-120E beats them both in performance. It tracks better than either one of those 2, even the Shure known for its superb trackability, and sounds better than the Ortofon supossedly superior in its sound quality. The AT-120E with its nude minted elliptical stylus beats them both in the accuracy of its imaging, depth of bass extension and the liquiuity and transparency of its highs. I'm very pleased with this cartrtidge in particular, and with AT as a whole. My other cartridge is also an AT, a 440mla, and I'm surprised at how close this 120E is to that more expensive cartridge. Makes me think the AT has superior engineering and design capabilities than other manufacturers of phono cartridges, and as I look to the future for upgraded cartridge purchases I will seriously consider AT as my brand of choice

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Great Sounding Affordable Cartridge For General UseFirst of all, this is not a high end cartridge, but it is a very fine general purpose cartridge that has a pleasing sound that is non fatiguing. As far as budget cartridges go, I have used many competitor's cartridges and still do on occasion, but always seem to come back to the AT120e, AT440MLa, and AT150MLX. The 120e is used on a backup turntable and not used all of the time, but generally when I feel like hearing something different. It has a very pleasing sound that isn't nearly as detailed as the 440MLa or 150MLX, but is very good for its price point. In comparison to the 440MLa, the cartridge is less clear, but has more warmth to the sound. It tracks very well for just being a .3x.7 elliptical, though on some records there is a very slight bit of inner groove distortion or occasionally sibilance. Most people would probably not notice it, but it does occasionally pop up depending on the record. The best selling point for this cartridge is performance vs. price. For a nude elliptical cut diamond (better than bonded) that tracks well and also has very good sound separation, I haven't found another cartridge quite as good as this one. If you are just buying a new turntable and want a simple and cheap cartridge then this is the one to get from my experience. Some other brands offer similar quality in sound, but are more expensive.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from A Great All-Around Cartridge For The MoneyI bought the AT120e/t to replace the nearly-new Ortofon 2M red cartridge on my new Project Debut Carbon DC table. You might be wondering why I would replace a well-respected cartridge with another that is nearly the same price. The reason is simply this: The Ortofon was a distorted, grungy-sounding cartridge that severely distorted on the inner grooves, even when set up well. This Audio Technica, on the other hand, stays sweet and clean at every position on the record. Surface noise was greatly reduced. Distortion at all positions was greatly reduced. High frequencies are much more airy and extended, which works better with my system. The Ortofon sounded bandwidth limited and spitty. The AT120 was cleaner and much more open. Dynamics are also better. Compared to a cd of the same material, it is evident that the AT120 has a more scooped midrange, and might be somewhat bright if your system leans that way. As it wears in, it is mellowing and is much more balanced than at first, but it is a somewhat bright sounding cartridge. Compared to others I've heard, it is not quite as lush, but I'm ok with that. For the money, I don't think there is a better compromise to be had. I'll give up a little bit of resolution for a cleaner midrange and a lack of inner groove distortion. I'm very happy with the sound of the cartridge and would buy it again.Equipment used: Project Debut DC Carbon Turntable, Adcom GTP-400 preamp (including phono stage) and GFA535L power amp. Speakers use Vifa P17 midwoofers and Morel MDT-33 tweeters.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from AT120/E/TThis cartridge is performing quite well in my system and is improving with continued playing. The sound is dynamic, detailed and tracking is superb! The performance for the price is a bargin in comparison to all the esoteric high priced competitition and I highly recommend this cartridge for its musical sound and affordable price.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great sound for the money.I have about 25 hours on this cartridge and it is starting to really sound sweet. I have heard it takes 50 to completely break-in. Tracks well and the sound stage is very impressive. I own several cartridges from Sure and Audio Technica and this is the nicest and best bang for the $. Not as good as my Denon MC but at 1/4 the cost it is a bargain.
