from A Great All-Around Cartridge For The MoneyI bought the AT120e/t to replace the nearly-new Ortofon 2M red cartridge on my new Project Debut Carbon DC table. You might be wondering why I would replace a well-respected cartridge with another that is nearly the same price. The reason is simply this: The Ortofon was a distorted, grungy-sounding cartridge that severely distorted on the inner grooves, even when set up well. This Audio Technica, on the other hand, stays sweet and clean at every position on the record. Surface noise was greatly reduced. Distortion at all positions was greatly reduced. High frequencies are much more airy and extended, which works better with my system. The Ortofon sounded bandwidth limited and spitty. The AT120 was cleaner and much more open. Dynamics are also better. Compared to a cd of the same material, it is evident that the AT120 has a more scooped midrange, and might be somewhat bright if your system leans that way. As it wears in, it is mellowing and is much more balanced than at first, but it is a somewhat bright sounding cartridge. Compared to others I've heard, it is not quite as lush, but I'm ok with that. For the money, I don't think there is a better compromise to be had. I'll give up a little bit of resolution for a cleaner midrange and a lack of inner groove distortion. I'm very happy with the sound of the cartridge and would buy it again.Equipment used: Project Debut DC Carbon Turntable, Adcom GTP-400 preamp (including phono stage) and GFA535L power amp. Speakers use Vifa P17 midwoofers and Morel MDT-33 tweeters.

from AT120/E/TThis cartridge is performing quite well in my system and is improving with continued playing. The sound is dynamic, detailed and tracking is superb! The performance for the price is a bargin in comparison to all the esoteric high priced competitition and I highly recommend this cartridge for its musical sound and affordable price.

from Great sound for the money.I have about 25 hours on this cartridge and it is starting to really sound sweet. I have heard it takes 50 to completely break-in. Tracks well and the sound stage is very impressive. I own several cartridges from Sure and Audio Technica and this is the nicest and best bang for the $. Not as good as my Denon MC but at 1/4 the cost it is a bargain.

from Best Cartridge for the moneyI have two of these. They both perform beautifully. I like the sound so much better than the comparable Shure MX97e. The highs are more lifelike. It does take about 30 - 50 hours of use to fully break in the stylus. At first you may hear some "ssss" on some vocals ( a little lispy). But that will go away once the stylus is broken in. Then it's years of great sounding vinyl from this bad boy. Great dynamics.I have one on a vintage Technics SL-1700 and one on a Technics SL-1400. I think Audio Technica cartridges and Technics turntables go perfectly together. I set the tracking weight to 1.5 grams.

from Audio-Technica AT120E is AMAZING!!!I searched for 4 months online for a good cartridge for my turntable after breaking the cantilever on my (1977) vintage Audio Technica 13EAX. Original needles were not available thru reliable sources anymore, so I was forced to upgrade... I looked into Ortofon and Sure cartridges and saw the reviews said they were "neutral sounding" and boring. Well, reading reviews on the AT 120E, everyone I read said it was the best cartridge for the money and that it's younger sibling the AT 95E was an amazing value, too. Having originally had an Audio Technica cartridge that I loved, I decided to stick with that brand...WOW!!This AT 120 E has brough life back to my vinyl collection. The crisp, clear highs, balanced midrange, and respectable lows of this cartridge make for a very enjoyable listening experience...so much so, that I have stopped listening to my CD's. You can really hear what you are missing in the original recordings that are filtered out by CD digital production. The cymbal decays are soooo lifelike, not like the wimpy sputter of cymbal sounds on CDs. The pops and crackles of vinyl are very understated with this product. They are still there, but not at all in the way of the music. It does an amazing job with tracking all grooves, including those pesky last two tracks on records. Works great on all types of music. Classical, Jazz, Classic Rock...even recods from the 1950s!!! The 4 month search for vinyl heaven is over for me!! I LOVE this cartridge..You will, too...Get one Today!!
