Atlas Sound SD72W 8" 70V Dual Cone Ceiling Speaker Assembly

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Very good ROIFor the money, this product is a steal. The frequency response was just as described. I ran one of these on an amp and did a break-in test to run it 'hotter' than my customer ever would and it handled great. The only problem I had was probably due to an improper gain structure feeding the amp (Pyle 70V 60W). I was feeding it with an iPod and I had the output gain at max. With this setup and playing an orchestral piece I did find the speaker distorted at about 80dB. I backed the iPod gain back to 80% and turned the amp up to compensate and the distortion was gone. Bottom line, these speakers outperfom some Bogen's that I paid twice the price for.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Pretty Good SpeakerI got a few of these out of a retail store that was being converted into a restaurant, so they were used. There is a 70V transformer on these speakers, but I just bypassed the transformer by hooking the speaker wiring directly to the speaker terminals and up to my stereo receiver (they will be installed for home use) and they sound awesome. The only difference between these speakers shown here and my speakers are that mine have blue Atlas Sound logos instead of white Atlas Sound logos, but it's the same type of speaker. I would recommend this speaker to anyone looking for a cheaply-priced in-ceiling speaker with decent sound.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Good product for the money. They do the job.Sound quality is adequate for an overhead system. Performed as required without incident. Time will tell on the endurance as they are in an in door pool room and high humidity will be taxing. I am very satisfied to date with the product and with Parts Express sales and shipping.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Not a bad speakerAlthough these speakers would be found in a restaurant or supermarket; I installed them in by bedroom and I must say, that I am pleased with them. Installation would have been easier if they were not going into a place where I replaced an old pair of inwalls. There is no wire tap on the audio-transformer for an 8-Ohm load"some modification", but they do have a warm pleasant sound.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Awesome sound for the priceI was amazed at the sound quality of these speakers at this price point. They'd easily compete with options at 2x the price or more. I had a client on a *tight* budget and went with these speakers to keep their costs down. After hearing them, this is my new default option on installs.

Patio speakers driven by Sonos Connect Amp

I would like to use 8 of these speakers in 4 sets of 2, driven by an existing Sonos Connect Amp on my patio. The furthest set would be about 75 feet from the Amp itself. Could you tell me whether and how this would work, and what if anything I might need to buy to balance the system electrically? Thanks
Asked by: KWA1
The speaker you've selected here is a 70v speaker, intended for commercial applications, and is not compatible with your home audio application. To accommodate multiple speakers where only one set of speaker terminals exists, we recommend using an impedance matching speaker selector switch. I've referenced two examples below for your convenience, as well as an appropriate speaker for your home audio system.

do these come with the mounting enclosure?

Asked by: yitelectric
No enclosure is included with this product. We do have a few such items available, I've linked a couple below for your convenience.

I need to know the cut out info for these. Im looking to replace a speaker that has a 7and a half inch hole.

If not these which speakers do you perfer. Im looking to get 9 pair!
Asked by: TonyT
Unfortunately, this particular speaker will not fit in that opening. It requires at least 8.25", and would fit up to a 10.75" cutout, but is really designed to be used with Atlas rings, bridges, and/or enclosures. You will most likely need to make those holes a bit bigger in order to fit an 8" speaker in them.
