Is it compatible with Win 7?
Yes, the ART USB Phono Plus V2 phono pre-amp is compatible with Windows Vista (all versions) and Windows 7.There are two types of phono cartridges. The low quality, low cost ceramic typical of many older turntables more often called record changers in that they have a tall spindle and drop multiple albums. Higher grade turntables use magnetic cartridges and are of much higher sound quality. The other difference in these cartridges is that ceramic has a low fidelity high signal output. Many are high enough in output to drive a pair of headphones without an ampifier.Magnetic cartridges are significantly higher in fidelity but much lower in output and require a pre-amplifier to bring the signal output to an optimum level. Many older turntables also have a eparate grounding wire that must be connected to the receiver ground to eliminate a 60 Hz. hum. If you have an older style turntabe with a separate ground wire, you can ground the wire to one of the chassis screws. The ART USB Phono V2 also serves as an interface for computer digital recording of other analog sources. Because of the other useful features present on the unit it is a useful tool for anyone who wishes to explore PC audio.Have fun & Enjoy
