Rated 5 out of 5 by from Awesome tool!Wow - so glad I spent the extra few bucks for this over the cheaper options. This thing made quick work of two holes in 3/4" ceiling tiles. The plastic shield did catch the tile piece and a lot of debris but I still had a mess to clean up on the floor. No biggie though given how well this thing works!!

Rated 2 out of 5 by from Almost two years of ownership with several issues.I purchased this item around two years ago and have now cut around 40 holes with it from 5" up to 10". I would say this item is OKAY at best. The first and immediate issue I had was with the plastic insert on the back side of the bearing in the "tub". It continuously popped out. I remedied this by drilling four 3/32" holes in this cylindrical extrusion and inserted stiff wire to act as a retaining "clip" for the bearing. Once I had that sorted it worked well for a while.I would definitely say to RE-TIGHTEN the blades with your allen wrench after every cut. You may get carried away and try to cut 4 or more holes without tightening the blades but the first time you cut a hole too big because the (blades sling outward) you'll regret it. Consider using threadlocker on these screws.Make sure you have two hands and a good footing on your ladder to ensure the rubber gasket is pressed up against the ceiling firmly. You'll want to get your hole started with the wood bit and THEN attempt to press the bucked against the ceiling. Next the spring will take action as you press your drill into the ceiling. Careful not to let your drill get away from you and make sure you go slowly. It actually helps if the center bit hits a 3/4" strip because it keeps the unit from wobbling around. Once your center hole is to big this is virtually useless.Wipe clean the rubber gasket with a damp then dry cloth before every cut ESPECIALLY if your ceiling is not white. Otherwise you may get a dust ring on your freshly painted ceiling. This unit finally failed on me when the center of the bit where the cross bar goes through it wore out and now wobbles like crazy. There's no way to tighten this and you'll only cut poor holes once this happens.I would consider buying this at a $40 price range. However I won't be buying this item again at this price.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from I was really needing one of this tool.If your a pro installer you need this! Usually you should begin your install before all the furniture gets in, but if not like it has happened to all of us. You need to make a clean hole without creating panic and havoc from the property management or owners from all the dust and or dirt!! This is your tool!!!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great time and money saverI used this to cut in about 30 commercial audio speakers, it saved me time on the install and the clean up. It is well worth the investment. I wish I had this years ago.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Works pretty wellCut in 6 - 11" holes for ceiling speakers quickly with no issues.Need a drill with a fair amount of torque, but all in all worked very well and seems to be well made.Shipping was AMAZING, ordered Tuesday at around 10 pm and received it Thursday morning

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Huge time saverI've used this to cut holes for a number of 6" recessed lights, and a couple 8" ceiling speakers so far, and am quite impressed. Before purchasing this, I had installed a few ceiling speakers at a friend's house using a hand drywall saw. While the holes I cut by hand were ok, I ended up with drywall dust all over me and the floor, and a very tired + sore arm.Once you set the blade width on this cutter, it only takes a few seconds to make a perfect, clean-cut circle, with no mess!Added bonus is that since the dust shield is pressed against the ceiling, once you cut all the way through, your drill bits are limited to how far into the ceiling they go. (so there is less risk of hitting anything inside the ceiling cavity.)

Adjustable Drywall and Ceiling Tile Hole Cutter 1.2" to 11.8"

How precise is the maximum cutting diameter? I have speakers that are exactly 11 inches in diameter and I'm concerned that the holes would be just a smidge too tight to put the speakers through. Is it possible to make the holes cut a tiny bit larger?

Asked by: MattKatz
This will actually cut circles up to 11-3/4" in diameter so you should not have a problem getting an 11" hole.

Recutting a hole?

Will this work when there is no material in the center of the hole area? For example a drywall ceiling already has holes. I need a larger hole. If the plastic tub is held tight to the ceiling will I be able to cut the larger hole?
Asked by: PeteW
This would not be ideal, the center is what is used to hold the cutter from thrashing around regardless how tight the tub is held. I would not recommend using it this way.

Just received the Adjustable Drywall and Ceiling Tile Hole Cutter and was disappointed that there was no instructions in the box. Does this come with operating manual and mine was missing? Or am I on my own to figure out how to assemble and use the cutter? Please advise.
Asked by: Chris 1951
There is a youtube video at the top of the page that goes over how to use the product. This is a paraphrase of the video:Remove cutter and set your measurementsYou will notice one side is metric the other standardLoosen each blade with the supplied allen wrench to your desired measurement. Then tighten down.Remove the butterfly nut and spring. Then thread the cutter through the tub.Place the spring on the back side of the tub and tighten the butterfly nut.Place the cutter into your drill like any other drill bit. Mark the center ofwhere you would like your hole on drywall or ceiling tile with the includedtape measure and pencil. Now simply drill and the tub should catch your excess debris.Best of luck
