Rated 5 out of 5 by from Gold Plated Vacuum Tube Socket 9 PinOutstanding Vacuum Tube Socket quality. Disregard previous review by another buyer. These sockets will fit PCB perfectly. Nice price too. And, glazed ceramic. Would buy again. Tech department is knowledgeable!

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Not at all what is appears to be!!!I ordered some of these tube sockets based upon the above picture. What I received does NOT have pin terminals, but wire-through terminals with holes, the same kind of terminals as on the PE 055-509. They also have a large-diameter center terminal which will need to be cut off or a hole drilled in the circuit board to fit it. As I was designing my own circuit board, I accommodated the pinless sockets, but if you need these for an existing printed circuit board with standard PC holes, IT WON'T WORK!!! (It wasn't worth my while returning them to PE.)As such, I recommend these well-made sockets, but only if you can think "outside the box". Otherwise, get some other sockets.

9-Pin Vacuum Tube Socket Gold Plated Ceramic PC Mount 12AX7 Type

I need to fit this socket to an existing PCB.  Can you confirm the exact distance between opposite legs across the circle (diameter) please?  I need three for 12AU7 tubes in my preamp project.

Asked by: TonyWainhouse
The distance from one pin across to another is 13/16" or 20mm.

Recommended PCB layout?

Can you provide a datasheet for the recommended PCB layout for this tube socket? Thanks,Chuck
Asked by: cybermrc
When I mount tubes (valves) on a PCB, I purchase the sockets and make the layout based on the sockets needs. Typically I scribe a circle equal to the solder tab diameter, then place etching dots in the tab positions and center drill tab holes accordingly.I bend the tabs outward slightly and solder them in place making sure they do not cross a circuit trace or an adjacent pin tab. The 9 pins provide sufficient mechanical hold to secure the tube in place. If I am building for rough use, I use sockets with additional mount tabs for screws. This requires special pc layout that allows for the bolts outside of circuit traces. This is a good socket for a 12AX7 because it is a low weight / mass tube.
