8" Ceiling Speaker with 70V Transformer
8" Ceiling Speaker with 70V Transformer is rated 4.2857 out of 5 by 7.
Rated 4 out of 5 by from Good value!I bought 12 of these speakers to add to an existing PA system. I am pleased with their performance so far, however I have 2 criticisms to offer: First; on several speakers the transformer leads were not properly soldered to the speaker terminals & came adrift--a minor inconvenience to resolder & check all the others. Second, the speaker metal frames are very light weight, so they easily distort if attached to a baffle which is not perfectly flat. Another thing to check before & after installation. However, once I fixed my baffles which were not flat, the speakers sounded great. A good value at this very low price!

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Worked better than expectedI purchased 34 of the speakers for a show. I built simple housings for mounting. We placed 8 configured as 10w in two buildings that each measured 100' x 80' each. Each building had a Bogen 100W amp. I placed 18 configured as 5W to cover a 300' x 100' on a Bogen 125W amp. The speakers worked well for the paging system as the were very clear. Compliments were given on the system clarity by participants in the show.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Inexpensive replacement speaker for paging & background music.Purchased almost 100 of these for a system upgrade for zone paging in an industrial setting. Due to the price, we were able to provide to the customer a complete new unit instead of just adding the matching transformer. The quality is excellent for the price. Zero defects in our batch as well.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Very cost effective ceiling speakerThese are very efficient speakers. You will find that running off the lower taps still gives you a ton of output! To ensure a vibration-free lifespan, I pulled the transformers off, and pop-riveted them back on using a piece of rubber gasket as a cushion...works like a charm. I am VERY happy with the speaker's fidelity too. I would buy them again.

I hope to use this to replace a 45 ohm speaker in my M&S intercom system. I understand that the overall speaker volume is determined by which tap is used but is that the only consideration when choosing? Will connecting the wrong tap damage my system?

Asked by: Option
If the original speaker uses a 70V/100V line matching transformer then you might be able to use this speaker instead. If the original speaker does not have a 70V line matching transformer then this 70V transformer equipped speaker would not be an appropriate replacement. The combined wattage of all the speakers in the system (the "tap" selection of all speakers added together) should be less than the power output available from your amplifier.
