Rated 5 out of 5 by from Best of bothNot only do you get all the typical 70V selections, but this transformer can also be used to 25V systems as well. NOTE: The labels are not always lined up directly over the denoted wires. It's best to look closely and count them.

70V 10W Line Matching Transformer

Can this be used with a 45 ohm driver on 25V or 70V systems, if so what is the recommended tap settings for 1 or 2 watts?

Intended use is retrofitting a commercial intercom system as a simple distributed sound system. These would replace simple 150 ohm resistors at the speaker end. No other controls are present in the system.
Asked by: tjbaudio
This transformer only has options for 4 and 8 ohm secondary impedance. I would not recommend using it with any other impedances.

300-040 explanation of color leads

I bought two 300-040 70.7V line matching transformers and there is no sheet with them that explains the function of the color leads. I need to know how they are connected internally and what their function is.
Asked by: Joe S
This transformer is designed to be used with 25 and 70 volt speaker systems. The input leads are called "tap settings" and these determine how loud the speaker will play. The higher the tap setting, the louder the playback. You will be connecting the negative speaker wire to the "Common" or black lead. The positive will be connected to one of the tap settings, the others can be removed. The speaker side of the transformer has 8 ohm, 4 ohm and common leads. The negative of the speaker gets connected to the common or black lead, and the positive gets connected to either the 4 or 8 ohm leads, depending on the impedance of the speaker. The colors are as follows: Gray = 8 ohms, White = 4 ohms, Black = Common, Purple = 70V - 0.62W, Orange = 70V - 1.25W, Brown = 70V - 2.5W, Red = 25V - 0.62W / 70V - 5W, Blue = 25V - 1.25W / 70V - 10W, Yellow = 25V - 2.5W, Green = 25V - 5W, White = 25V - 10W, Black = Common.
