5.1 Home Theater Bundle 8" Powered Subwoofer
5.1 Home Theater Bundle 8" Powered Subwoofer is rated 4.25 out of 5 by 8.
Rated 4 out of 5 by from Decent but not perfectI've used many different brands and prices of audio gear over the last 20 or so years. This set w/ the 8" sub ranks somewhere near the middle for overall sound reproduction. As stated by others, really lacks in the lower mid range to upper bass. They are clear and concise on the upper end and the sub makes very decent lows/bass in my medium sized room (glad I did NOT go with a 10" sub).I would not recommend the 5 pieces w/out a sub - as the response signs off around 100- 150 Hz. For music playback, the missing frequencies are still noticeable, but for 5.1 use in movies and HDTV, the missing range is not noticeable.I have NO regrets purchasing this set, and for the average person I think you will be very satisfied - but if you are a discerning audio enthusiast, you will likely be let down - but you have to remember what you only paid for them!

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Great budget systemI've been a home theater nut for years and have spent way to much money on audio and video products. So when tasked to buy speakers to complement my in-laws new big screen tv, I knew it would be difficult to compromise my personal taste. I wasn't about to spend much knowing they wouldn't appreciate higher end equipment, but I still wanted whatever I bought to provide a reasonably enjoyable listening experience. Based on all the glowing reviews, I figured this system would be at least good enough for my relatives ears, if not mine. After hearing it, I can say I was more that satisfied. I will qualify my review by saying that I did not have the opportunity to spend much time listening, I watched a few scenes from one movie, then listened a little more while adjusting the subwoofer level. But what I heard was very open and clear; highs were there, but not too bright. The bass was the weakest link. It doesn't go very low and seemed to have "one note", but provides the grunt to give movies more impact. I would have liked to buy one of the larger subwoofers, but we had measured the space it had to fit in and only the 8" would fit.I heartily recommend this system to anyone looking for good quality, but not "high end" sound, at a great price. I would gladly use it outside of my main home theater (computer speakers, bedroom, etc).

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Can't beat for the moneyThe sound is much larger then the small speakers would suggest. Sounds great in a small room. Only complaint is the mounting for the speakers, but a trip to radio shack and $30 fixed that issue. The sub has great frequency response and is suprising for only an 8" on 80 watts, I would go with the 10" or 12" package for larger rooms or primary surround sounds.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great Bang for the BuckGreat budget system for secondary room. Subwoofer alone is worth the price. Super Fast shipping - highly recommended Parts-Express!

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Bang for the buck..Just like the title says...this complete 5.1 system will give you good sound without spending way too much. Keep in mind that these aren't audiophile speakers, and are only really suited to a bedroom or small living area. While the fronts/surrounds don't have the rich tones of much more expensive speakers, they avoid sounding "tinny" like most in this price range. Dialog comes through clear on the center channel and the sub provides enough bump to make a bedroom into a mini home theater. The bottom line is that I've heard more expensive setups that aren't much if any better..and this is certainly one of the best under $200 5.1 setups you can buy.

will this work with what i have

i just got the sony STR-DH740 receiver with 145w per channel and i'm in the market for a speaker set w/ power sub ... do i have to worry that the HTP-1 5.1 home theater package will be under powered or over powered by the receiver ... also what type of speaker wires are going to be needed to connect these speakers to the receiver
Asked by: koumorileo
This system will work fine with your receiver. The small satellite speakers will need to be high-passed through the receiver around 100 Hz to help protect them and this will allow them to have more output while not using much more power. I would recommend 16 gauge speaker cable for this system.

Do I need an additional amp to power the satellite speakers? I intend to hook direct to audio outs on TV.

Asked by: BBBB
Yes, a separate amp will be required, and if you want to utilize all the speakers, you will need an AV receiver with 5.1 outputs or a multi-channel amp. Also, for the satellites/center, the power handling is 50W and 80W respectively. You should note that these units aren't terribly efficient (87dB), and combined with the modest power rating will likely only yield satisfactory performance in a small room.
