50K Audio Taper Potentiometer 1/4" Shaft
How could I mount this to a 1/2" Thick Hardwood Panel?
The way I've done it in the past is that I first drill a hole all the way through the wood to fit the shaft through, and then I use a spade bit and drill most of the way through from the inside, leaving a little over 1/8" of wood left on the outer part of the panel. This clears out an area for the pot itself to rest, inset into the wood so that the shaft sticks out enough to use. I then glue or caulk the pot in place from the inside. However, even doing it this way it's sometimes hard to get the shaft to stick out enough, particularly if you want to put a knob on it. Also, this method pretty much can only be done with pots that have the longer style of shaft (which is about 3/4" long), and from the looks of the picture for this particular pot, it looks like it's the shorter style (less than 1/2").Mostly what I do these days, to ensure that the shaft sticks out enough, is that I make a metal panel on my projects where I attach all my pots, switches, etc. I then cover or paint the panel the same way that I finish the rest of the project, and it blends in quite well.

How would I wire this as an external volume control for a mono speaker?
I've attached a diagram below for your convenience.
