What is the power input requirement? (ie. at 12V, how much current is required?)
At 15V input, how much current is required?
This neat little amp board has hundred of custom uses. It is clean for it's size. The output will depend on your input power. It can be from 10vdc@ around 1200ma to 18 vdc @ 2500 ma. More power equals better performance but you need not max out to get good sound.

Can this be used in a portable speaker?
I'm essentially new to this, despite having spent the last couple of weeks reading up on what I thought was important. I've decided to build a small, battery operated, and hopefully cheap, portable speaker with 2 full range drivers. But because I'm new, I have a couple of questions.1) Should I bother adding a potentiometer as an additional volume control to the one from the audio source (probably an MP3 player)?2) Is an on/off switch (like PE's cheapest SPST mini rocker switch necessary? And if so, where is it wired?3) In the manual, it was stated that only 1 power source should be connected at a time. If I were to wire a 12V battery pack (in the form of a rechargeable li-ion battery pack or a bunch of AA batteries, and assuming I purchase the terminal blocks from the Sure website), how would I go about "switching" (maybe the wrong word) the power source from the battery to the DC plug? Or am I simply creating too much trouble for a newbie?Sorry for the long(ish) read, and thanks for the help.
If you are using a MP3 player or something that has control over the volume, I would not recommend using an additional volume control. IT is just additional resistance that is unnecessary.I think your setup could actually use something like a DPDT switch that has the center position off. One side can be for battery, the other for DC power supply, and the center for "off"

If I add a potentiometer for volume control, according to the user manual, would I place it between J8 SD and GND pins? The manual does not discuss the placement of a volume-control potentiometer.
No, the J8 terminals are provided for muting only. To add a volume control, a potentiometer would be wired in-line with the input signal. I've linked an appropriate potentiometer below, as well as a diagram for properly wiring it into the signal path.

Using this amp for small computer speakers. Can I use the volume control for the sound card?
The speakers I am using are 8 ohm at 6W max. I built cabs for them. Not really looking for HD sound, just for basic sound. I can switch to my larger amp to get the surround on power games. So the current needed for the amp, does it need to be about 1 amp?
1. Yes, use the volume control from the PC. This eliminates the need for a volume control potentiometer and simplifies the build. Also, voltage bridging is much better with no potentiometer.2. Using 8 ohm speakers, this amp's max power is 5 watts per channel (10% THD). For class D amps, the max power output depends on the voltage in. The datasheet provided from Sure has the voltage in for the power spec at 12 volts. So, if your supply is 12 volts, the max power draw would be a little under 1 amp. A 12 volt 1 amp power supply would be sufficient.3. Enjoy your home built computer speakers. They are FAR better than anything you could by at a computer shop.

could I use this with the above pot/volume control as a headphone monitor amp while playing (drums) on stage. I'm thinking if I wire in longer leads from the pot to the amp I could have the control at a convenient spot while the amp/power supply is out of reach thus controlling my own monitor mix.
This amp is probably not ideal for a headphone amp. From what I can tell, the gain is between 20 and 26db. Generally you want a headphone amp to be very low gain (single digits) because most headphones are very sensitive. For exampe, my Koss ProAA3 headphones are 100db at 1mW (60 ohms). To drive 1mW into 60 ohms, there need only be .245 volts, which most sources drive much higher than that at line level, meaning that a gain of 1 or 2 would be ideal. If you attenuate your signal way down and then amplify with high gain, you'll just be driving your signal into the noise floor and will have noisy output.Sure does sell a headphone amp board--model AA-AB32261. Gain is 9.6, so it is still a little high for my tastes, but anything under 10 should be headphone amp suitable.

Additional terminal blocks?
The board comes with PCB-mounted screw-type terminals for the outputs. I would like to buy more of these terminals for the input and power. Is there a PE part number for these terminals? If PE doesn't carry them, does anyone know of manufacturer + part number that can be sourced somewhere else?
