Rated 5 out of 5 by from Excellent ResistorThis resistor is excellent. I use 6 resistors to fix to build a parallel LCR network to fix tweeter problem of tripping the PTC circuit breaker with 80 watts driven into my pair of 3 way speakers in which they are suppose to be rated at 150 watts rms, and then I had to rephase the drivers. The 3 resistors that I used in each speaker run cool with with a 120 watt of music power per channel, and it cut back the excessive power to my tweeters that it don't need that caused tweeter's PTC circuit breaker to trip.I did a phase shift test between voltage and current on this resistor to test how much inductance in this resistor on my oscilloscope, and this resistor has low inductance, and it is good from DC to 100 KHz with little phase shift, less than 2 degrees between voltage and current wave angle at 100 KHz, and with a resistor body temperature around 108 degrees Fahrenheit with 5 to 6 watt power consumption. You can hold your hand on that resistor for a very long time at that temperature.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Piezo Horn Driver Crossover 1800 hz Part 1Place this 20-ohm 20-watt resistor and a 3.5 mH coil- (Part number 255-278) across the horn driver terminals - (load) - Then because we are creating a second order crossover which inverts the phase 180 degrees, place a 2.2 uF capacitor (part number 027-415) in-line from the source (+) lead to the (-) terminal on your horn driver. We're lookin' at a second order 1.8K crossover that protects Piezo horn drivers and vastly improves their response. Also note that only one crossover is necessary for multiple Piezo drivers, as they have no impedance. Simply wire them in parallel to the source tweeter with the crossover on it.

i'm looking to buy some piezo tweeters (part # 272-100), and was told to run this 20 ohm 20w resistor. Just wondering why you would use this instead of a high pass crossover. I will be using them in a car with power from the head unit only.

Asked by: derek82
Piezo tweeters have a capacitive load as opposed to a resistive load, so the resistor acts as a high pass for a piezo as well as protection.
