12 VDC 17A 200W Regulated Switching Power Supply
Would this be a good power source for a 1000W 4 channel car amplifier?
This will be enough to get some output from the amplifier although the power supply can only produce about 200 watts of output potential. You will need something with much higher output to get the most from the amplifier. The biggest power supply we have is a 40 amp which you can see below.http://www.parts-express.com/pyramid-ps52kx-rack-mount-dc-power-supply-12-15-vdc-40a--120-558

if I connect just 1 or 2, 12 volt relays to this supply will it activate
It is a little vague what you are trying to accomplish. This Power supply runs off of house hold mains voltage 110VAC 60Hz in the US (220VAC 50Hz in Australia, just have to select you application with a switch on the device). Be very careful with House Mains Supply. I suggest adding a switch and fuse on your hotline. If you want to use a relay to switch the mains, you will need to find one rated for 120VAC at a minimum 20 Amps. Just be aware that switching power supplies when first turned on can have an inrush current of 5 times or more of its normal draw for several milliseconds. If you would like to use 12VDC relays for devices powered by the Power Supply, just check your devices max current requirements (ie a 30Watt amp at 12VDC will pull ~2.5Amps max) and use a relay rated for about twice that (so a 5 Amp relay).Best of luck on your project.
