1/2" Mylar Dome Shielded Tweeter 8 Ohm with 3.3 Ohm Resistor

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Can't go wrong for 99¢Fixed up some old Optimus sts-50's with these. Granted, I'm no audiophile (and, granted, they weren't the best speakers, anyway), but these certainly fixed them up. I'd been thinking about purchasing 6 of these for replacing the paper cone tweeters in my hodge-podge, thrift store, home theatre setup. The sts-50's were just a trial run. At this price, I think I might as well buy the 6 more.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great buyUsed two to repair a set of large bookshelf speakers with blown tweeters. I had to make mounting/backing out of hard masonite for a mount to cover old hole. They seemed to sound OK and fill in the highs. Should have bought a couple more to have on hand and saved some shipping costs.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Surprisingly GoodI have a pair of Sony speakers (SS-B-1000) that I was given as a gift. The stock model sounded very odd. Vocals were recessed, the midrange was lacking which was strange from a small 'bargain' bookeshelf speaker. I read a few reviews on the web which show the stock cap crosses over the tweeter way too high, creating a gap in the midrange.I ordered a pair of these tweets, and a pair of 3.3mfd caps. Installed them today and the result is very nice. I kept the pad resistor in place, otherwise it was not matched to the other driver. No cabinet mods needed, it dropped directly into the Sony cabinet. If you try this and it doesn't quite fit, turn it 1/3 of a turn and it will drop in. The screw holes line up and it is a simple mod that is quick to do.Cures the mid-range issue and adds a nice top end. I was on the edge of giving the speakers away, but now I like them. Thanks Parts Express! It is amazing the stuff you sell for 99 cents!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from GREAT SOUND!Bought these to rebuild some old horn tweeter that sounded terrible.Popped off the the backes of the old horns, and cut off the rear bowl. Then I took off the circular expanding ring on these thats that gives them a larger OD and super glued them one! sound 10x better. Really a great sounding tweeter.I have a 4.7uf Dayton film cap on there.

I want add this tweeter to an existing 8 ohm woofer, and an amp that is approx. 20 watts per. Would that require a crossover, or just the 3.3 ohm resistor, and how would it be wired?

Asked by: Mooncalf
You will want to use a high pass filter of some kind with this, but the crossover frequency will have to be determined by the woofers frequency response. I would suggest nothing lower than 6,500 Hz second order with this tweeter. The resistor can be used if the tweeter is too bright, or can be bypassed if not.

Is the 30 watt continuous rating the tested or rated power handling?

Were these tweeters tested to verify that they can actually handle 30 watts continuously with a 5kHz crossover? Thanks!
Asked by: Robocam
This is likely a rated power handling. Being a buyout item we have very limited information from the manufacturer.
