Dayton HTS-1200B Home Theater Speaker Set Black

To my suprise they sound Great! they are lacking in the low/lower mid range but for the price they are worth every penny.

What more can you ask for!! Dayton Audio comes through again! Amazing clarity and great price!These speakers sound great!! I wasn't expecting much from this set at all but to my suprise they sound crystal clear and you can crank up the volume with out them getting distorted. I took one apart to discover that they have a crossover installed(another bonous)! For the money this has to be the best set of speakers you can get!!!

I bought this speaker system along w/ 2 more of the matching center channel speakers (so as to have 3 dual woofer fronts in a 7.1 setup). The whole setup cost me just under $180 (outstanding price). This was to replace a set of awesome sounding Mission bookshelves that I've had for years. W/ 2 small boys running around and countless "close calls" I figured I'd get the Missions out of harms way and make due w/ a satellite setup until the boys are older.

First the gripes:
The whole system is SERIOUSLY lacking in bass: a subwoofer is an absolute must. I expected this and I already had a good sub so this really isn't an issue. Just don't buy these expecting full range sound. The dual woofer fronts have virtually no more bass than the single woofer satellites so don't waste the money as I did thinking you'll have a bass-ier front stage w/ 3 dual woofer speakers. Also, the dual woofer units seem to be a bit peaky at 2500Hz. It could very well be my room (TERRIBLE acoustics) but the single woofer satellites didn't seem to suffer w/ this peak. It was easily eq'd out w/ my receiver so I just stuck w/ them as they did seem to have slightly better imaging than the smaller sats.

The included mounting brackets for the sats have to be modified to fit over the included screws. The heads will not fit through the keyhole slot

Now the positives:
The sound from this set is very good. Their just on the bright side of neutral w/ wide upper end extension and good midrange. I imagine some more break-in time will smooth them out even more. The sound quality is worlds ahead of the home theater in a box junk and easily blows away the super pricey Bose cubes.
Overall I am very happy w/ the sound quality.
I only rated the performance a 4 because my standards are high but for the money these are an excellent performer, just don't forget the sub.
