DISCONTINUED Morel HU9.1 9" Cast Frame Woofer

Did not purchase these from Parts Express(sorry, P.E. but I will be buying more parts due to your selection and prices).This driver performs perfectly to about 500 Hz or so and then sounds rather colored above that point.Used them in a 3-way design crossed over at 250 Hz at 12 dB to a 6.5" VIFA P17WJ-00 woofer,which I used as a dedicated midrange, and then crossed over to a Morel MDT-20 tweeter at 2,500 Hz. Used a 43 liter enclosure with a 3"X 7 7/16" port for an F3 of 36Hz. The x-max of 4.25 mm. allows for very powerful bass with good excursion. I have been custom-building speakers in a hobby business for many years and have come across few 8" woofers that truely blow-me-away in terms of natural bass definition and breadth of moving air. If these fit into your budget for a 3-way design, you can be confident that the results will be comparable to commercial name-brand speakers that cost several thousand dollars a pair! I would recommend using no more than 175 watts per channel, however, being that Morel tends to over-exaggerate their power-handling capabilities(as most companies tend to do). Excellent product, but you must be prepared to match it with a cost-no-object midrange and tweeter to get the optimum result...don't cut corners!

I own a par these beauties with Vifa Xt 25 and Md 75 in a box three way system. Is not easy work with them, because they have a severe erratic response frequency around 600 to 1100 Hz which it is very hard to put it off. I used a second order filter to 650 Hz and eliminated the problems of the irregularities after several attempts with first order crossover and no success. The performance was fantastic, clear and warmth, the bass was tight and well definite, though I used them in a 34 l box only, when the best are 45 l or more.
