Titanic MKIII Subwoofers!
The best just got better! We took our popular Titanic MKII Subwoofers and made them even better! Our main goal was to create subwoofers that produce deep clean bass, have high power handling capabilities and long term reliability. The new Titanic MKIII Subwoofers exceeded all of our expectations. These drivers will work well in both vented and sealed enclosures, and with their unique VCSTM cooling system, copper shorting ring, and 2-1/2" diameter voice coils, they can handle even more power to produce higher output levels with less distortion! We've used the finest materials available to ensure that each driver is built to the highest quality standards for long-term trouble-free performance even under extreme sound pressure levels!

A. Rigid Cast Frame
The cast aluminum basket features aerodynamic supports that provide maximum rigidity for the motor structure without impeding air movement from the rear of the cone or causing unwanted reflections. The mounting flange features a thick rubber gasket that not only provides an air tight seal but also looks cool!

B. Ultra Stiff Composite Fiber Cone
The cone is manufactured using the finest grade pulp reinforced with Kevlar fibers and sealed with a polymerized coating. The result is a very stiff cone that remains stable even under the stress of very high sound pressure levels.

C. Butyl Rubber Surround
A large roll surround is used so the suspension has the travel to handle the long excursions that this driver is capable of producing. The surround is made of durable Butyl rubber for long-term stability and reliability. The thickness of the surround was precisely calculated to eliminate the possibility of "suck back" in small enclosures, while still providing good linearity.

D. Ventus Cooling System (VCS)
This unique cooling system utilizes a vented spider and pole piece. As the cone moves in and out, air is drawn across the voice coil and through the motor structure greatly improving its thermal capacity thus reducing distortion and power compression. The harder you push the driver, the greater the cooling effect!

E. Copper Shorting Ring
A copper ring has been added to the pole piece to counter the effects of back EMF (electromotive force), resulting in reduced second harmonic distortion. By locating the shorting ring at the top of the pole piece, we also get the added benefit of reducing the effective voice coil inductance.

F. Optimized Motor System
The motor system features double stacked magnets and an extended pole piece. It was optimized using FEA (Finite Element Analysis) to ensure a strong symmetric magnetic field in the air gap. The double-stacked magnets ensure there is plenty of clearance to prevent the long-excursion voice coil from bottoming. The motor system also features a long 2-1/2" voice coil, which is wound on a Kapton former for improved heat dissipation and higher power handling.

G. Flat Progressive Nomex Spider
This proprietary spider is made from high tech Nomex blended material for long term stability. It provides a uniform restoring force throughout its normal range of travel. As the driver nears its maximum excursion the spider gets "progressively" stiffer. This prevents the voice coil from accelerating out of the magnetic gap during high output peaks reducing distortion and possible voice coil bottoming. This unique spider also has the heavy gauge voice coil leads stitched or "snaked" through the spider. This eliminates "lead slapping" during extreme excursion.

Abuse of Drivers and Posters
Wednesday, July 7, 2010
DasAlteMelosGuy from Los Angeles

I don't agree with European Bob that "No one should be allowed to rate a product if they are an idiot." and I think he should apologize to Scott from Central Wisconsin for his statement is abusive and might intimidate others from posting their experiences. And inexperience and idiocy are not equivalent nor discernible in a forum, even if it were relevant. EVERYONE should be allowed to post an opinion, period.

As for box design, this freeware will prove invaluable to those inexperienced or uncomfortable in loudspeaker design:

That said, yes Scott from Central Wisconsin, European Bob is correct (about the technicalities), that box is far too large for this woofer & most likely caused the blowout. If your 8cuft volume cannot be changed then you should seal the port and stuff it tighter at the least. You'll still get a -6db at 25hz or so. Quite good.

Or use an 18" as many 18s will potentiate at that large a volume.

Use no more than 3cuft if ported or excessive motion will occur and wreak havoc as per European Bob's post. Even 3cuft gets you into pipe organ frequency response so you can use even less volume for 30hz+ requirements.

I put it in an isobaric push-pull, the THD dropped well under 1% and the enclosure is only 2cuft.

Wanna get crazy? An isobaric P-P in a 5cuft tuned for 16hz FLAT. Yes, I love organ music.

The SD is really insufficient for real world SPLs at 16hz (which is more a feeling than an audible note) but it's really quite a well crafted blend of parameters to reach 16hz and be remarkably flat. Only a slight ripple in lower 20s. Terrific.

You really need 2 of these or an 18" for this level of SPL but it's an awfully good piece technically. Possibly only bested in PE's catalog by the TC Sounds and then only by 1.7db in the low 20s. In 12-inchers, possibly the best bargain out there.

What more could you want?
Monday, April 26, 2010
billybadbadillo from Austin, Tx America

I imagine that there are many applications in which you would require more from a subwoofer, but nothing short of commercial, or large concert hall type stuff. As for home use, even in a large living room, this thing is just overkill. If you want to use this for music, I'd suggest a 1.5 cubic foot box, but 2 makes for some dirty movie application. Paired up with nice receiver on dts hd and pushed by the bash 500 theres no reason other than Imax 3d for me to leave my house. You'd have to spend alot more to do what one you can put together using this can do.

long term update
Sunday, January 3, 2010
MrGrinch from In

After having this sub for about 2yrs now I figured I'd give an update.
I still love this sub! I have it in the back of my daily driver in a fully stuffed 1.25cu. ft sealed enclosure. I listen to my radio roughly 2hrs a day (long commute) 5 days a week so I've logged some serious hours on this sub. It still performs flawlessly and cranks out some lows that are still amazing to this day. The sound is very clean and flat but just slightly "loose". The low end extension is still amazing. In my small car it very clearly plays a 15hz test tone w/ a surprising amount of volume; sounds like a chopper hovering directly overhead! :)

It is a somewhat inefficient sub so big power is a must. I have a clean 500w rms going to it and it responds nicely. I wanted a quality sounding sub not some gigantic noise maker and that's exactly what I got. There are louder subs out there but the quality of sound for the price paid the Titanic is simply unbeatable.
