Dayton RS52AN-8 2" Dome Midrange

I bought this mid with it's mate in the Reference series, the Dayton RS28A tweeter.
I will have to agree with many of the other people who rated this mid. It is very clear, open, and detailed. I have really enjoyed hearing some of my old CD's for the first time again. Meaning; I hear details and neuances that I have not previously heard before. But these drivers also reveal many of the antiquities of old recordings.
I agree also with one other viewer, listening distance does seem to be, at it's optimum, about 2 meters. Unfortunately, the room I have these drivers in, will not allow them to be moved enough to improve imaging from their current placement.
This driver also seems to be partial to female voices and the piano. wow
The protective screens are a plus, though I'm not sure I like the look, I know that it will give me years of enjoyment cause prying fingers are kept at bay.

I had to wait a few months because of it being back ordered but during that time, I did not consider changing to any other mid-range. This was put into the Zaph design ZD3C Center Channel and it is perfect in this application. Excellent.

There's an ongoing discussion about these speakers in the Tech Talk forum. Some complain of distortion, others that their range makes them impractical - and in need of a fourth-order xo. I find such talk amusing.

I bought these bad boys on the cheap, crossed them at 700 and 3k. Because of their versatility, my woofer doesn't have to have a Sleepless in Seattle meet cute with my tweeter. My woofer supposedly crosses up to 1k while my tweeter supposedly crosses down to 1k, but neither has to make that stretch with a mid that goes as low as 500 and tops out around 7k.

The level of detail in this modestly-priced middie is surprising. That's why, when I got a pair of Morel MDT-55s, I didn't retire it. I let it share the load (I know; I'm a philistine). With this speaker, I've heard details in old songs that had previously escaped me. Its only real vice is its loudness, which can make it come off as brash. But properly crossed over and attenuated with an L-Pad, this midrange plays nice, very nice.
