Although this ribbon tweeter is excellent, it was only slightly better than the 25 year old advent tweeter it replaced (one Advent of a pair, had blown.)

I use these crossed over at about 13KHz and they sound wonderful.

I see a lot of very subjective positive reviews of ribbons but they just never seem to work for me. The positive reviews are always based on music where there is no reference. Listening to or measuring tones produces much more useful information that will reveal the problems with ribbons. In this case and in most cases for that matter, the problem is that these things go into unstable break up modes causing extraneous spectral contamination randomly. For example here a 15.5 KHz input tone produces about 7.26 KHz, 8.2 KHz, 14.5 KHz and a few higher than the stimulus. A 15.6 KHz input tone is clean other than the normal expected harmonic content. This is the thing, at one frequency ribbon might perform exceptionally and at a slightly different frequency they may produce all kinds of extraneous garbage.

I once had a pair of the Dayton ribbons that had no major issues but later orders of the same ribbons were unusable. Ribbons could have advantages if they could solve these problems but right now I'm giving up on ribbons. They just have too many problems!
