Dayton RS150-4 6" Reference Woofer 4 Ohm

Folks,...get some test equipment, maybe a modeling program, and you won't have any problems. This driver won't play LOUD!!! That is not it's intent. At low to moderate volumes, (within the rated power recommendations)with an amp that has good headroom so as to not introduce any unwanted distortions at higher volumes, this is a very clean, revealing, little inexpensive driver. I used these in a small bookshelf design with with a silk dome and individual 12dB crossovers made for the application (the actual points escape me at this time) using Solen caps and 18g aircore inductors, for my work office space. A small sub using a Dayton SD215-88 DVC and the SA100 amp with the crossover set to about 70 Hz rounds out the drivers. I have people, customers, walk in all the time and ask me if I can build them a set. I use no EQ, and everything sounds clean, vocal reproduction is fabulous, there a (very)small peaks, but are overall extremely flat. Never mind FOR THE MONEY! Don't try to play parties with these and, you too, will appreciate what they are capable of.

I am pleased with the sound and performance of this woofer. It has a lot of sophisticated features for the price.
The voice coil former is bent and distorted where it is bonded to the cone and spider. This is only a concern because there is no dust cap to cover the rough edge. The phase plug makes these kinds of errors highly visible. I see no eveidence that the former is distorted where it interfaces with the magnetic gap.

Used six of these in a HT LCR setup. Good bass response even in a slightly undersized cabinet (similar to the CJD MTM but fit into my entertainment center... 20w x 7h x 14dm tuned to about 55hz.) Selecting a good crossover point helps take care of the breakup nodes, which don't sound as dramatic as the RS125's did, at least to me. The RS125 is a great speaker too, but if you can fit the extra size, the bass improvement is worth the step up in size to the RS150. Matched well with a TB 25-302SH in an MTM to wind up with a nominal 8-ohm speaker.
