JBL 2226H 15" High-Power LF Driver 8 Ohm

These blow away the JBL 2225 their previous pro sound speaker. The aluminum voice coil and new cone material is much lighter creating a quicker transient response. Also the voice coil gap is also wider on this vent gap cooling making them easier to recone. Reconing speakers has given me an opportunity to do direct sound comparisons with several manufacture's speakers and so far the JBL 2226 is my first choice for a 15 drivers for both sound quality and reliability.

I use the JBL 4732 tops with 4715 subs and WHEW!! The only way you can beet it is to use the 4719X dual 18 inch subs. The 2226 low end drivers are powerful, rich with very musical un-muddied detail and have a very smooth DEEP bass. Very transparent as far as what you put into it is what you get out. I use the 2226 speaker in my old Yamaha 15 inch monitors and it really made a huge difference to me personally because I bring "everything" including all drums, kick, and bass guitar along with all vocals and guitars and now keys through my monitor. It sounds just like having a mains cabinet in front of you. I use only Crown MA 3600 and PT2 and PT3 amps for the monitors and 3600's for the mains. As long as you keep in the power range of the speaker system, they are fine. Personally, I don't know why I see so many on e-bay for re-cones and just guess that they are under powering the speakers and burning them out with square waves(distortion, over heating them from cranking the amps to high to get the desired volume). Yep, buy these!! Make sure your box design fairly suits the speaker design, or atleast use a good box!

All of JBL's components reproduce music in the most transparent way and these drivers are no exception. Other manufacturers may boast of higher power handling, better frequency range, or higher SPL, but that just doesn't matter, and probably isn't correct anyway. When you listen to a bass guitar making its runs, every note is balanced and transparent. If you are using other JBL components to complete a full frequency system, the same is true for all instruments. Saxes, horns, vocals, guitars are reproduced with total purity of sound. James B. was a pioneer that perfected the reproduction of music beyond all mortal competitive engineering. They cost a bit more, but a Rolls Royce costs more than a Hyundai. Pay the extra and own it for life.
