DISCONTINUED Morel MDT-30S 1-1/8" Soft Dome Tweeter

I thought these speakers were on the harsh side. As a matter of fact, I touched the dome to make sure it wasn t black painted aluminum.

I love the sound of a soft dome tweeter. My ears are sensitive to the sonic highs. I heard a couple of shrieks on S s and the guitar feedback is like a knife in my ear. Well, maybe not that bad, but not comfortable for sure.

I like the Advent AW025. They are clear, three-dimensional, absolutely no harshness, $36 and they don t make them anymore.

I currently have 3 DIY projects. One speaker pair uses this tweeter. One pair uses the ScanSpeak 9700. One pair uses the Seas Millennium. All speakers are crossed in the 2-2.2khz range. I can honestly say that the Morel is close to, if not as good, as the other two tweeters. The Scan retails for $164. The Seas retails for $224. Consequently, the Morel at $68 is a bargain. I would like to think I have built all the speakers I will ever need, but who am I kidding? I am addicted to the hobby and other projects are sure to follow and regardless of woofer price, I will give the Morel a look as its mate.

I purchased these tweeters from Parts Express back when they sold for 53.90 each, thinking that I may have gone mad for paying that much for a tweeter. WOW,my fears quickly vanished! I ended up crossing them over at 1.9 kHz with a fourth-order Butterworth high-pass in a 2-way bookshelf speaker. The sound quality is comparable to the Dynaudio Esotar, but at a fraction of the cost! I ran 125 watts per channel into these speakers and the more I pushed them, the better they sounded! For a cost-no-object project, these tweeters should be of the highest consideration for any level of speaker-building knowledge! Will easily handle a full 100 watts at 2kHz with a second-order filter. Very highly recommended and even at 68.75 each, they are of the last true values in high-end audio! Don`t miss out on the amazing qualities of this transducer. Construction is heavy-duty throughout. BUY THIS TWEETER!!!
